So we arrived back in Bangkok and as i'm writing my section Scott is writing about the sights and activities that took place while we were back there. I on the other hand am going to write about one of the side trips that we took while we were here. We decided once we got back that we had plenty of time to do some small trips around the area, that way we can actually say we did some other things besides just sitting around here. Although there is plenty to do just in the city center if we really wanted. Our first side trip was kanchanaburi a small town about 2 hours west of Bangkok. For 200Baht ($8) each we got on a bus that took us there, conviently the diver dropped us off at ... read more

Hi everyone, Just thought that id do a quick update before I head of to Ayutthaya and Chiang Mai tomorrow as during the trek i doubt there will be any internet seen as there arnt any toilets!! Monday turned out to be a good day, when we reached Kanchanaburi we found our accommodation situated on the River Kway! The hostel was a number of floating rooms which is interesting when your on the loo and a boat goes past as the rooms have a tendancy to rock quite abit! Howevr I have found this is actually quite relaxing at night. After we had settled our things into our room we took a mini man powered tuk tuk, otherwise known as a Salmon around the town for some sight seeing. This was great fun as all of ... read more

Hey everyone - hope all is well at home (sorry I haven't asked that before!). Feel free to add a comment or send a message to these blogs...so I know you're all still alive... So, a bit of catching up to do...on Thursday morning we took a minivan to Erewan National Park which is about 80km out of Kanchanaburi. The main reason for visiting the park was to see Erewan Falls, a 7-tiered series of waterfalls which eventually feeds into a tributary to the river Kwai. The obligatory tourist shops were gathered at the bus station entry, and although I have been pretty good at ignoring the touts, I am now the proud owner of a small ceramic dish with Louisa and Sam's photo in the middle. Probably won't be the first crappy souvenir I buy ... read more

Another day, another bus....the same hot sun & the struggle to fine decent acommodation again. Well Kanchanaburi was well worth the visit.....it's a place where you could drop anchor for a while so take note those of you travelling to these parts. Grace & I had been planning to get our hair cut for weeks before it all fell out from sun damage so off we went to one of the locals in Kanchanaburi. The saying springs to mind...you pay for what you get..... but I was horrified when I saw the damage this Thai lady could do with her scissors & it only took minutes. Ok she got the ponytail & rolled it up & then yomped a lump off the end & then started snipping haphazardly all over the place. Well if my facial ... read more

We have left Bankok, and have moved on to a little city called Kanchanaburi. Rudy and I both love it here. First of all, our hotel (unlike the one in bankok) is a little piece of paradise. Our bungalow rooms look as though they are tree houses placed in the middle of a small jungle. AMAZING!! Yesterday we spent the day at the tiger temple. As everyone knows I was really excited to go there. Unfortunatly it wasnt exactly the experience that we expected. The tigers were sadated and basically a guide brought you around from tiger to tiger and just took pictures of you. Actually the most exciting part was the other animals that roamed free around the park. Needless to say a little disapointing. Today however, Rudy and i went to the Erawan ... read more

that was so cheesy. today we went on our tour, unfortunately we thought it started at 8:30am, but we found out at 7:55 that it started at 8, AND we had to do a last-minute room change, AND i still hadn't finished eating my apple pancake! CRISIS! mad rush and confusion! the tour was really great! it started with elephant rides, and WE HAVE FOUND THE KYAMOBILE! it was a bit rough, but really exciting! some of the mahouts (elephant caretakers) seemed to really like us, we got poked with sticks and sprayed by the elephants and no one else did. on some tours you can go swimming with them, but not this one. we still got wet though. got lots of awesome pictures! at the end, one of the elephants poked me with his trunk ... read more

Hi all, (Excuse the spelling below - hard keyboards to use, and too hard too spell check!) Just a few things before we keep going - after reading heaps of other travelblogs over the last 12 months, we always found that there was not enough information given in relation to names of places, prices etc being that we were heading overseas soon and wanted details, details, details. Therefore, in case other traveller's are reading this and are lookling for information like we were, we will include names of places, prices etc where ever possible. For those back home not travelling, I know this may be boring, useless info to you, but, oh well!! Also, there will be a lot of talk about food as those who know me will need no explaining as to why! Thursday ... read more
