Santa
Scary santa in Siam Park Alrighty, yesterday was our last day in Bangkok and we had to find something to take up most of our day, as we had to check out of our guesthouse at noon. So at noon we dropped our bags off at the travel agency handling our bus ride to Koh Tao and decided to go to Siam Park, a waterpark listed on our Bangkok map. We had no idea how to get there, or how far away it was, so we asked the travel agency lady at the place where we got our Cambodia Visas, and she told us to take the 60 bus to the end of the line and we'd get there, and at the reasonable bus rate of 20 bhat.
The bus ride ended up taking about an hour and a half in non rush hour traffic. We pulled up to Siam Park and it looked like a beat down decrepit amusement park, and that's really what it sort of turned out to be. The entrance price was 200 bhat, 160 more then stated on our map. But after that long bus ride we were determined to go in regardless. After paying the entrace fee we entered
Getting off the Bus
Now it's time to get on the boat to Koh Tao this shell of an amusement park, it didn't look like a waterpark at all. However there was a sign pointing to a water park so we kept walking past plenty of out of service rides and broken down buildings until we found the water park. It actually turned out to be really nice, and was probably the only real reason anyone would visit the place. Like the zoo, this wasn't a tourist destination, it was pretty much just Thai people who went there and we were some of the few white tourists. They had a wave pool, some twisty slides, and some bumpy speed slides. It's amazing at the total lack of rules they have. On the twisty slides we were free to all go down at the same time, as there was no lifeguard at the top keeping check. And the lifeguard at the bottom really didn't care at all. It wsa quite fun, and something we'd never see at home, with all of our safety rules. The bumpy speed slides were amazingly fun. It doesn't look like it will be a fast ride, as it goes steep, then flattens out a bit before going steep again. But you

Coral on the porch end up going so fast that you catch air off the bump part, very very fun. We saw one young thai guy jump at the bump part and do a front flip and then land back on the slide. It was awesome, and once again something you'd never get away with in Canada. We left the park at about 3:30 in the afternoon and got on the long, semi-rush hour bus ride home.
Once we got back to Khao San we picked up our Passports and Visas from the travel agency and then headed to "Da Hippi Bar", a bar that plays really loud, great music. It was right next to the place we stayed at so we had heard the music for the past couple nights and finally had to check it out. Then we headed to the other travel agency to catch our nightbus to koh tao.
The bus ride was pretty long and uneventful. They played "Taxi" with Jimmy Fallon and Queen Latifah, but the ending was cut off, so I'll never no how that stupid movie ended. DAMMIT. At about 6:30 we arrived at the boat shuttle to Koh Tao. Well actually our bus
The ocean
The view from our bungalow ran out of gas a couple hundred meters away and we had to walk. But it was all good. We all huddled on the top of the shuttle bus and sat down looking like a crazy breed of refugees. It was about 2 hours before we arrived at the beautiful Koh Tao island. The water here is so clear, and pristine. As soon as we stepped off the boat we were hassled by a barrage of people trying to get us to stay at there guest house, or sign up for their diving package. This time the hassleing actually worked out to our advantage. We had found a place in the lonely planet guide that we wanted to stay at so we told this one lady who asked us where we were staying. She phoned them for us and found out they'd only be available for tonight, but they would be booked the next night. But conveniently the place she worked at had 2 rooms available. And they were very cheap, 200 bhat for one of them, and 150 for the other. In total, cheaper then our accomadations in Bangkok. The bungalows we got our on a steep hill over looking a bay, and the view is spectacular. It's just such a pleasent change to the stuffy, crowded, busy Bangkok. We went snorkeling today and that was a blast. The water was so nice and refreshing. The only problem being that you don't actually notice yourself getting burnt when you're in the water. So we're all a bit burnt right now. But nothing too bad, Coral is the reddest of the bunch. After snorkling we just chilled out, played some cards, and had some dinner.
We then decided to walk to town. Coral decided not to come, so me and Emily made the hour long trek on steep broken down roads to the town. And now it's freaking pitch black and we're going to head back. That's all for now. I'll add pictures later. Ciao.
