Thursday morning we were met at our hotel by Gerry our tour guide for the day, firstly he took us to the royal palace of Bangkok, the king wasn't in residence as he obviously hadn't been informed that we were visiting, actually he doesn't reside there anymore and only goes there on state occassions, the Thai people absolutely love their king and there is pictures up of him everywhere, his name is King Lamai 9th, no doubt i will give tell you the full history on my return. The palace was out of this world the arcitecture of all the buildings in the ground had different influences lots of chinese influence with all the different coloured mosiac tiles and lots of gold leaf one of the building was done in the style of Buckingham palace although it did have a typical thai roof on it. Next we visited some temples and seen lots of different styles of Buddha's including the reclining buddha which is over 40' long.
The canal tour that we done next was my favourite part of the day, it was a tour of what i would call the old Bangkok where the wealthy folk use to live
but is now very very run down and some of the cabins/huts look like they are about to fall down which wouldn't be good if there was people in them as there is alligators in the canals (yes I actually saw real alligators).
After a bit of a nap we donned our glad rags and went for dinner in a restaurant called 'Cabbages and Condoms' the reason behind the name of the place is the restaurant donates all the profits to orphaned children of HIV and it promotes safe sex by the promotion of condoms. All the lamps were made of coloured condoms and there was even a father christmas made of condoms and at the end of the meal instead of after dinner mints they gave you a condom, by the way the food was brill as well.
Friday morning we left the hotel at 5.30 to get our flight to Koh Samui, they let me lose in the executive lounge at the airport where I proceeded to eat everything in site, hence another 1/2 stone on dam!!!
The airport at Koh Samui is absolutely gorgeous and iI would have been quite happy spending the next 2
weeks there lol
We checked into 'Full Moon Bungalows' lovely owners Paul and Angela (what a name) from South of England so obvoiously salt of the earth! The room left a lot to be desired but hey I am back packing! but still a lick of paint wouldn't go amiss ($14 per night). After checking in we spent the entire day on our own stretch of private beach soaking up the glorious sun rays !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES SUN SUN SUN SUN SUN SUN SUN is that rubbing it in enough lol. We were actually in bed for 10 as we were exhausted. Today we went to this gorgeous hotel 5* luxury it was to die for, ($100 per nitght) the pool looked over the ocean and the little Thai girl Juree treat us like royalty, I say little Thai girl but she was 43 although looked about 25 (sickening).
Off to Ko Pha-Ngan tomorrow morning which is about an hours boat ride away from here, hoping to stay there 2 or 3 nights but will no doubt let you know, love to all, take care xxxx
