Hey All,
I have found that finding a restaurant around here is extremely difficult. You walk out to the beach, head down the beach and there is many restaurants and bars set up right on the water. You use the beach as a road, and at night they all have cool lights and candles set up to attract you in, and the tables are set up in the sand. Its very cool. You don’t ever have to walk up to the road.
After supper last night I walked back and sat in some chairs on the sand between my bungalow and the pool and there were 2 girls from Holland staying in the bungalow down from me. They told me about this day trip they were taking to visit 4 islands the next day. It sounded very cool and was able to have the lady that runs the place set me up.
We were picked up by a songthow the next morning and taken to a longtail boat. These are classic boats to Thailand and you see them everywhere. The y are long skinny and have the most unusual set up. They mount what looks like a small
car engine on a long drive shaft with a huge propeller on the end. They can turn it and lift it out of the water as needed. When that thing gets cranked up its something else. I have a video that hopefully I can get posted soon.
Our first stop was a snorkeling spot with some beautiful fish. My fav was this bule and yellow striped fish with fluorescent blue fins. I wish I had an underwater camera to take pics. After snorkeling a while, we went to the giant rock in the water and tied up. There were a couple of other boats there but no passengers so its was kind of weird. There are dozens of these giant granite rock formations jutting out of the water that are just so cool looking. The guide made us all put on lifejackets (needless to say I have to squeeze into one that was 2 sizes too small for me), and then we jumped in the water, he made us line up and hold on to the person in front of you, and off we headed for this cave entrance. Inside it was dark a anything, but the guide had
a flashlight, but I was at the back of the line and it was dark where I was. Upon entering you could touch the cave wall above your head and you almost had to duck. This went on for a bit and you entered a tall area where you could see it was way up, but still dark. The water had an erie green color to it, almost like it was glowing. We paddles our way to another low area and after about 150 yards I would say, you could see light. We came to an opening in this rack formation that was just incredible. It was like you were in a giant bowl, completely closed in on all sides, and there was a small beach. It was open at the top and surrounded by trees growing in the side of the cliffs of the rock. There were no words to describe this place. We sat on the beach and swam in the clear water for a bit and then put on our lifejackets and headed back into the cave and out to the boat. That alone was worth the cost of the trip (the whole day was only 850
Baht, $28 dollars).
After that we headed to this beautiful beach and had lunch and did some swimming. Went to another spot for snorkeling and then headed back. It was a really fun day and all the spots were so nice, and while it was a warm day, the water was perfect and there was a good breeze.
I met someone else at supper tonight, but since there is no way on earth you would believe me without a picture, I am going to hold off telling you about her until I can post it. I just cant make this stuff up.
I think tomorrow I may rent a motorbike or just lay around and read. Such tough decisions.
Happy Travels, Don
Sorry this is going out so late, the internet connection went south on me last night, so sending out this morning.
