Well the driver done as promised and dropped us off at some bungalows right by the beach and after some negotiation we had our own hut for 350baht a night for 3nights. The hut was cool as fuck with a hammock, our own brush to sweep my yard and attached shower/bathroom. The bed had a big mozzie net all the way round and a fan aiming straight at the bed. Perfecto.
We spent 3days here at Long Beach pretty much on the beach from 10-1pm, a siesta while the sun was at its hottest then back out from 3-5pm before eating and sleeping. It doesnt sound like much but its heaven when you have been on the move for 2months. All the food places on the beach and some a bit further into the jungle done excellent food and we were handed flyers most nights for a 'beach party' happening somewhere but we didnt bother after the full moon the week before.
On the 4th morning we had decision to make, either stay put or move further south down the island to Khlong Nin to check that out. We decided to check Khlong Nin out and a walk through
the jungle to the main road found us a lift. We spent maybe 15mins up the beach road at Khlong Nin looking for a cheap place to stay and found some huts in a small opening in the jungle. It was kind of a small village setup with a bar/restaurant, massage beds and some places to sleep and at 300baht was the cheapest we found. Again the hut was good enough with a fan, shower, hammock etc and they were building more whilst we were there aswell as a Cinema room that would be finished in October. The woman who owned the huts and the massage place was brilliant and made us laugh every day.
We paid for 3nights but ended up staying for 5 because Khlong Nin was really nice. If it was any more laid back it would be asleep, the beach was quiet and calm (apart from one mega wave that took Rosara out and stripped her of her bikini), the restaurants done excellent Thai food and everybody staying/living here were good people. One night while we were watching the Utd match and having tea/drinks when another English couple joined us who had been for a
Sunday roast. They got free apple crumble but were too stuffed so they asked us did we want it. We hadnt had dessert for 2months and answered yes before they finished asking. This night we also had BIG rain which lasted for hours and meant we stayed in the bar longer than planned. Luckily we were sleeping 20metres away and not 20minutes like the other couple. Free apple crumble, Utd won 5-0 and the biggest storm we had seen meant this was a good night.
It didnt all go swimmingly in Khlong Nin though and one day after a 25p pot noodle I decided to clean the pot out with the tool from the toilet you use to spray your arse. I picked it up as gentle as possible and somehow managed to smash it apart... cue water going everywhere and a quick fix with an earplug. This didnt last long and started to leak again after a few hours. I had to turn the water to the hut off to stop it. We bought some ducktape from 7eleven and tried to fix it properley. This was only another quick fix and for the next 4days we had to
have a quick shower then turn the water off for the rest of the day. To turn it off though meant sneaking round the back when it was dark like a modern day James Bond.
All in all we really enjoyed Khlong Nin and were glad we came while it was still relatively quiet, we were told they are building a bridge from mainland Krabi which will mean more visitors and it turning into just another resort. Speaking of which we booked our next boat to Phi Phi and left early morning to catch our ride...
