Well, I spent today traveling what should have been a 3 hour train ride in 7 hours. I'm really not sure what happened, but for some reason at one of the train stations our engine decided to leave the rest of the train behind. I never found out why. So I made it to Chumphon around 8pm, found a place to sleep, and dropped my stuff off before eating two meals in an hour's time. That made the headache go away. I spent yesterday exploring the small city of Prachuap Khiri Khan, the capital city of the province of the same name. Few people bother to check the place out as tourists, but it was a cool stop for a few hours of exploration. I arrived the night previous from Bangkok, but didn't really explore too ... read more

Goodbye Kho Tao I completed my final two dives, both on new sites, before grabbing a spicy papaya salad for lunch. It was from the grimiest stall ever, but the lady working it was friendly, so I thought what the hell. Nothing like diahorrea to help a long journey... although thankfully this was not the case. I said goodbye to Kho Tao, and borded the ferry to the promised land. Well, the mainland at least. Thai Sleeper Trains I slept for most of the journey from Kho Tao to Chumporn in spite of the freezing aircon and the hard plastic seats. The smell of drying (and perhaps rotting) fish roused me to semi consciousness - Chumporn is literally rammed with fishing boats. I had several hours to kill before my train so I whiled my time ... read more

Our last afternoon (Saturday) in Bangkok, and we are spending it in an internet cafe because it is air conditioned...extremely hot out there today! Our few hours wait in Chumphorn was lovely so I wanted to devote a blog to it because it probably doesn't get much attention :). (we were there on the 23rd May) No photos yet because I can't download them on this computer, but I'll add some soon. Just a small town that is mainly just a transfer point for travelers, we were dropped off at the Farang Bar for a few hours. (Just to note, our 2 hour Catamaran journey from Oh Tao was so horrible...I got very sick) Not much to do so we set out with little expectations. We wandered around the local food market. It was 5pm and ... read more

Well, I can hardly say it's the end of the road... I still have a good 20 hours of travel ahead of me. I'm stuck in Chumphon for another hour before jumping on the bus to Bangkok. I say stuck, because there is NOTHING to do in Chumphon (except eat- the night market is surprisingly good!) I even had to add it to the 'Places' list in Travelblog! Seems I'm the first who bothered reporting anything from here! :P Left Koh Tao today along with every last trace of tropical paradise I will be encountering for a while! From here it's non-stop to London, pretty much, with a few hours to wander around in a daze on Khao San Rd tomorrow morning. Maybe I'll go find a park to sleep in for a while. It's either ... read more
