Three times guessing where I am now……. No sorry, you guessed wrong: I am now in Singapore! Well now you might think well after Sukkothai he went to the south, ehhmmm no. To tell the story. After Sukkothai I first went to Chiang Mai. That is again more to the north. It is the second largest city of Thailand. I was such a tourist…made an elephant ride, did a waterfall visit and bamboo rafting. Well I didn’t keep it dry because our bamboo raft went stuck between two rocks. Was it because of my bad steering?? Oops.. :-) All a lot of fun to do once. Also I visited Bo Sang a small place just outside of Chiang Mai where they make umbrellas and paint them by hand. And I even attended massage lessons at a massage school for one day. It was fun to learn. After a couple of days in Chian Mai I even went further to the north. This time to Pai. It is such a peacefull place. Especially the location I stayed. I had my own bamboo hut just across a small river, surrounded by nature and so quiet. Really a nice place to just sit, think
My bamboo hut in Pai
Looks a bit mysterious, doesn't it? The picture was taken in the evening when the sun was just under. and make new plans. And that’s what I appreciated to be alone again for a while. The first night my hut passed the test of a moderate storm, even the roof made of banana leafs survived. Being there surrounded by nature and in between the hills made me think about what I wanted to do next. So after two days enjoying Pai I took the bus and 14 hours later I was back in Bangkok. The taxi driver in Bangkok tried to rip me of. He tried at least 14 times, but I managed to keep him on the taxi meter. Nice tried, but I did not wanted to be fooled. I can imagine it must be hard to finance two wives and five children (he told me), but honesty pays last you might think. He was a nice man by the way and we had some laughs as well.
The next day was a shopping day. I visited a very large mall, or something like that, 9 stories high. What I liked most was just looking at all the asians shopping. It is so funny walking in between them. Later in the afternoon I went to a movie and
watched it at the VIP hall. The chairs were so comfortable with a folding back, a free drink and a blanket. The later was absolutely necesarry because of the freezing airconditioning. I took the bus back in the direction of my guesthouse and after stepping out of the bus the road was suddenly completely deserted. I thought of some kind of demonstration, but the police blocked the entire road for the king that had to pass by. It was special to see all the security vehicles and the car of the king. There were multiple cars he could have sit in. They would probably use a couple of his cars at the same time for security reasons. You can really notice that the Thai people love their king. The way they talk about him and pay respect. If you ask the Thai about how they experience their own parliament you get a complete different story.
That all was yesterday and early this morning I took a flight to Singapore. I already did some discovering of the city, but I will tell about my experiences in my next blog.
