The Skyscrapers of Singapore
This is the financial district. Such a good choice to go to Singapore. I really apreciate the atmosphere and the mixture of so much cultures. Asian, Indian, Chinese, Western,….every culture is represented. I was staying in the neighbourhood called ‘Little India’. The name says it all, it is just like being in India. The people, the little shops, the smells, the music and the food. But when you take a short walk you come in an area with all Chinese people and it feels like being in China and then when you walk on to the financial district it is like being in the financial city of London. It was a special experience when I walked in between all those skyscrapers and sat down for a while to watch on the big wide screen on one of the scrapers Bloomberg channel with the latest financial and economical news. The topic was just at that moment about the predictions on the recovery of the economical crisis and former FED director Greenspan said he expected it would not get worse. Well I am not sure he is right, but sitting there in between the skyscrapers and thinking about the world economy made it a special experience. I also
Maybe save a little first.
Such a huge fine (around 500 euro) for cycling at the wrong place. It was a small street only for pedestrians. liked the vibe of all the working people walking around and I almost felt like buying a suit and just follow someone into his building, like I was working there myself. Would be funny to just sit behind a desk and well….hmmm, check my email, get a coffee from the machine, just watch around what happens and talk to someone about economics, or whatever, and go away when I get bored. The city itself is very clean, maybe also due to the high penalties when you throw garbage on the street. And at every corner a there is a big mall.
My plan was to go to Perth yesterday but I missed my flight! Yes I know, it’s terrible…. A combination of staying to long at the national museum (it was so interesting) and taking a coffee when you don’t have time. Having some delicious indian snack before departure because I feld hungry. Visit a mosque that I saw on my way back to the hostel before I got my bag. It was so peacefull there by the way. The train to the airport that had some delay. The skytrain at the airport to switch to the right terminal that
just left in front of my nose….. So that all added up to the fact that I was standing before a closed check-in desk. And really nobody of the airline Jetstar was somewhere to find. So I decided to look at the board if there were any other flights going to Perth and asked at one of the airlinedesks, this time Qantas, if I could book some sort of a ‘last minute’. To Perth was really expensive, but the lady behind the counter could get a very, very, very low priced ticket to Sydney, departing one hour from then. So now I am in Sydney and arrived at five this morning. The rising sun and the coulours in the sky were so beautiful above Sydney that morning. At the airport I decided were I wanted to stay and some time later I arrived at the hostel by train, had some breakfast with some people and listened to their travel stories in Australia and headed outdoors to walk around. Today I have already seen the harbor bridge and walked to the other side and back, went to and the opera house and walked through the financial district. My first impression: I like this city!
