Opera House
The Opera House in the Light of Art. Time goes so fast. I can’t imagine I am now almost two weeks in Sydney. But I am enjoying it so much that there is no reason for me to leave, at least for this moment. I have visited a lot of musea: museum of contemporary art, maritiem museum, museum of Sydney and the Australian museum. Besides of that I like to just walk around the parks (especially the botanical gardens) and go to all the festivities that are organisised. Every day there is something new to do. Last week I visited the writers festival. It is a festival where writers can present their books. There were lectures given and discussions taking place about several topics. One of the things I attended was an English man being interviewed about his last book telling his story about living in China. He told he lives at this moment near Shanghai in a very small village in the mountains with his Chinese wife and children among local people. Ten years ago he started an enterprise in Shanghai when everything was very booming and the city was growing at an amazing pace. Unfortunately because of lack of cooperation from the gouvernment he lost his business
after several lawsuits trying to keep it. His business had several english magazines for the Shanghai market. There was nothing he can do. Stories like that from someones personal life are so interesting. He experienced a lot and was an intersting speeker to listen to. Other discussions I attended were about the participation of indeginous people (abooriginals) in politics and other institutions. There was one about human rights policy of Australia and the way they act in the domestic and international arena. Another one that was interesting as well was about social sustainability and the way to stimulate people in comunities. I spend two days at the festival and really enjoyed. Other things I did was to visit different areas in Sydney. Like for example newtown, where it is just like your are walking in the 70’s. People wearing two kind of different coloured shoes, red on the left, blue on the right. And a lot of shops with second handed furniture and clothes. You can feel you are entering another community. So funny. And I went to the beach and stayed for two nights at a hostel at Coogee Beach. At one of the days of my stay I walked along the coast from Coogee to Bondi beach. The later is the most famous here in Sydney. It was a relaxing walk in the sun and I think I can watch the sea banging against the rocks for hours. At this moment there is an light festival going on. Beautiful to see what artists can make with light. Buildings like the opera house were coloured and different artwork were presented near the harbour. So as you can read I am enjoying myself here and there is still so much I want to visit or do. You will hear it the next time, from here or from wherever I will be at that moment.
