Home sweet home!
This is our room after hours and hours of cleaning and spraying bug spray! Where to begin..Em and I are now living in our own house! We moved into our house on Sunday after our host decided it would be easier for us to live in the house instead of the hosts as it is right next to the school. We were both really glad we didnt have to stay another night with our 'Thai mum' as she was driving us craaazy! Her English was really bad, which I could cope with, but all she kept saying was 'Mum loves you...Mum loves her beautiful daughters...Mum misses her daughters' I think she actually thought she had adopted us! In Thailand for some bizarre reason Thai people refer to themselves in the third person. Nobody ever says 'I' apparently its meant to bring people closer but after a while its just annoying.
Ubon Ratchathani is not very rural and so far we have been to BIG C (an american style hypermarket) Tesco, KFC and The Pizza Company! When we were asked 'YOu like fried chicken?' We didnt realise we were being asked if we wanted to go to KFC. The Thais are obsessed with Tesco and BIG C and do all their shopping there. We have
tried lots of new food in the past week. The fruit is really nice here and very cheap but the meat is weird and ive decided to stop asking what I am eating because the last time I asked... my host replyed 'insides'....yum!
On Monday we were introduced in assembly and we were each given a schedule and told to go and join the classes and learn some thai cookery or photography for the first few weeks. So off to our classes we went. When we arrived at one class the teacher said 'I am hungry can you please teach the past tense' and off she went. This happened again on Tuesday too - unexpectadely we had to teach grammer to a load of noisy Thai kids. However teaching has been lots of fun so far and its probably good to be thrown in at the deep end.
Now for the funny bit...(and for those interested in lady boys!) On Monday Em and I were busy teaching when in waltzed a very unconvincing lady boy in an army outfit holding what looked like a load of certificates and a large photo album. We guessed by the students reaction
First day at work
This ones for you N2,lol! 'she' wasent a teacher. 'Phoot Thai mai dai'(I dont speak thai) Em said after we stood staring at this thai lady boy. She then walked over to me and started showing me these pictures of what i thought were aliens. The in comes ajharn Bow (an english teacher who cant speak english) and points at her with a very mai pen rai attitude and says 'foundation' and the children start giving her money. By this point I was very confused - why were the children giving money to a lady boy who ran a foundation to help aliens?
It turns out that sales people wander into the campus all the time and try to scam people. The lady boy had been trying to get the students to donate some money to her charity which was probably fake and the pictures werent of aliens they were of dead bodies.
We feel slightly like celebs at school as lots of children keep coming and asking for our signatures. They keep saying we are beautiful and Em has even been told she looks like Miss Universe...watever!! I think she has had one shower since we got here, lol. Also the art teacher
wants to paint a picture of us and the photograpgy students want to take our pictures - it ssoo strange.
Today is wednesday and we have been to the other campus (the college has two separate campus'). We have been talking to each class and introducing ourselves. Unfortunately one class made the fatel error of asking us to sing...they wouldnt let us leave until we sang a Britney Spears song. So we decided to go for crazy ...if you had been there i think you might have died laughing at us - well mainly at me as for some reason i decided to belt it out...when will I learn that I am a bad singer?
Happy Birthday Andrew and Neil!! xxxxxxxxx
Today is Friday and we have finished school early as there is a party!!!wooohoo Well its a retirement party for the director of the college. We have been learning how to make cocktails as Em and I are making them for the guests! We are both now pros at making Margaritas and Pink Ladys! Im quite excited for the party however they are making us where this hideous shirts again.

One week gone...
I was lying awake last night thinking "blimey Kate's been gone a week - and nobody's missed her!" Haha I'm only kidding! Did I not warn you that Thai people love anything Western? Hope you like living like a celebrity! - Take advantage it might be the only chance you get! Hmmm Britney? Bet that sounded amazing... :P Bet it was nothing on Alannis Morrissette in Newquay (am I allowed to mention Newquay) haha! Actually now I think on, as we're talking about singing, I thought I should remind you that yes I AM BETTER THAN YOU! according to the ultimate authority on all things singing related - SINGSTAR! You know there's been a funny smell over here the last few days, seeing as your friend has showered once in a week I'm beginning to think it isn't the drains after all :P It's a good job you've put a blog up today or I was going to send you an angry e-mail!!! We went to the pub quiz - we had 10 so had to split into two teams. Team A: Me, Charlene, Young Easty Hayley (33 points) Team B: Chris, Lorna, Raph, Emma D, David (36 points) We won 3 free pints though. Best answer was Easty knowing Gromit (of Wallace and Gromit fame) birthday! Do you know it? Right now then young lisa you look here. First of, you hadn't subscribed... 2nd, you didn't get first comment, 3rd you claim your emails are the best - you've got a thing or two coming! Haha OOO Kate big day today - it's the first day of 6th form for our respective siblings! Sitting next to each other in Pyschology now... Or they should be cos I rang up Laura Jackson who's mum is going to teach it and got her to alter the seating plan accordingly! Speaking of Jane - Jane I need a favour. As Kate is the definition of "a broken promise" (ask half the men in Newquay...) she never did send me the photos from Cragside. Which means I still don't have a nice photo of me and Kate (as only two exist in the world) and Leila STILL hasn't sent me one so is there any chance you can send me them? They'll be on your computer somewhere - careful though you don't want to stumble onto Kate's illicit images area... Anyway I've got to go I'm meant to be playing football soon and I HAVE TO WALK TO CHURCHILL - get me how healthy is that! Oh and on another note - you've got off lightly going away. First everybody buys you a present then you bugger off. Then it's Max's birthday, then it's Young's birthday, then it's Neil's birthday, then it's Natalie's birthday, Raph going away, then it's Amanda's birthday - jeepers going to Thailand has saved you a fortune. Sorry about that I have a reputation to maintain! Is there a maximum length post on these? I think this might be getting close. Anyway that's all for now. - But see I have been doing my subscription but-kicking! Look at all the replies now... Say hello to the lady-boys for me, and say hi to "Miss Universe" lmao - bet you were gutted you didn't get called that! Choking back tears... Oh, I'm trying to think of a cryptic way to ask this but I'm struggling - I'll send you a private e-mail at somepoint lmao! Anyway I am going to shut up now! Speak to you soon, love Step xxx
