The crowd
The crowd at the festival It's been one busy weekend! On Saturday we went in to Singburi town on the free bus and relaxed at the pool, then after a few hours we went shopping for a picnic lunch for our trip the next day! That evening we went to a thai festival and we were the only westerners there. It was really strange there were thousands of people infront of the Hero monument and they just parted for us and so we go places right at the front and we were on thai tv!We had to pretend to sing the Thai national anthem whilst waving flags and then there was some thai dancing all while being broadcast live. Some of our group had gone away for the weekend and saw us on the tele in their hotel rooms! After the shoall the thai's wanted photographs with the westerners! It was a really strange experience.
Sunday we had to get up early as we left at 6am to visit the Erawan waterfalls and the Kanchanaburi deathbridge and museum. We visited the museum first that was housed in a thatched hut of the style that would have been used to house prisoners of war during the
second world war. During 1942-43 the area held captive english, australian, american and dutch prisoners of war and was run by the japanese. We then went to see the bridge that had been constructed by the POW's. The railway line they constrcuted was meant to take 5 years but they were worked so hard it only took 16 months. We walked along the railway bridgeand we were a bit worried as there were signs up saying if a train comes to go to the safety platforms but they were quite far apart! The bridge is still used today, but not too regularly luckily as no trains came while we were on it!
Then we went to the Erawan waterfalls fo the rest of the day which were beautiful. There were 7 levels and it took a couple of hours to get to the 7th. 6 to 7 was the hardest and longest because it involved climbing and trekking and wasn't very well signposted but definately worth it when we got to the top! In the water they had these little fish that nibble the dead skin off your feet, it was a really strange feeling but quite good when

The gal's outside the waterfalls you got used to it! We had a picnic at the waterfall that we made ourselves that was quite interesting! We bought tinned tuna mayonaise for sandwhiches but when we opened it, it had loads of vegetables in as well! There was also monkeys in the tree's that according to the signs were 'viscious', one ran right between kim and I, it was quite scary as your not meant to run so we jut had to stand there!
On the way home we had a pimped out minbus that had led's and strobes as well as a drop down screen to play dvd's! We stopped at Tesco to get soe tea that was huge! It had a KFC in so we went there and I had a shrimp ring, not chicken, whichWe was actually really good! We then went shopping in Tesco's which was a real novelty for all of us especially seeing all the tesco own brand food from home.
Today we had to get p early again, 5am as we had to offer alms to the monks. We offered them rice, some drinks, oranges and some hot bananna in coconut milk. They the chanted for us
