Today we had a fab day- we went to Monkey City (see pics) in Lapburi it was so so oddl!!! There were monkeys just wondering all over the place!! It was crazy they were wondering all over the road, all over the old Royal Palace Ruins and were just sat around the city! Considering Thailand is very very green and there are MILES of open gorgeous space it seems odd for them to have built this Monkey Sanctuary on an Island in the middle of Lapburi City (aka Monkey City) Then we went to walk around the ruins, and then to a the Prabuddhabad Temple. It is the Buddhist festival of Makabusha today so it was very very busy, the temple - needless to say, was stunning. Going to meet the children that I'm going to ... read more

Well hello everyone! Sorry about all the confusion with the travel blogs. This is my current and ONLY one now. Hope all is well in England! I arrived in Singburi on Sunday after a fab time in Bangkok to the eco house I'll be staying in for the next 4 weeks. I was fairly surprised, it is fairly basic as you'd imagine but very comfortable! I'm sharing a room with two other girls (Rachel and Hannah) who are both lovely and we have a very friendly Ghekko that pops in most days to say hello and check we are ok! Quite a few people have been bitten a bit by the pesky Mozzies, but I've been on the ball with my repellent so haven't been bitten much at all! So thats cool! The food we have ... read more

sawat dii ka!! (Hello in Thai!) We arrived at the eco house on sunday afternoon to be pleasantly suprised by the standard of the accomodation...bunk beds (as expected) thick mattresses (not as expected). Bathroom and cold shower (as expected) being en-suite for a room of 6 (not expected)!! Also although we were allocated rooms, I was meant to be in with a girl called Amelia and another who didn't show and I had been getting on really well with Hannah and Marianne so we asked Amelia if she would swap with Hannah, and Marianne replaced the girl who had never shown up....at this point we didn't realise the rooms were all 6 dorm in bunks so we ended up the 3 of us in one room and we have tons of space (using the top bunk ... read more

hi guys hope ya all well - we enjoy reading ya messages!!!! So what to tell you bout this week - well started off with us goin to the Monestry to stay with the monks for a night. To be honest it wasnt really what we expected - we were imaginin a really nice temple like all the ones we'd been visiting for the past week but we got there and it was more like a old canteen hall in the middle of some shady woods with random little huts and a boy in a box?! It was like somethin out of the Blair Witch Project!! When we got there we went into the 'temple' and had to start chanting with the monks which was a bit wierd. We then did some meditation which was ok ... read more

Sa Wat Di Ka (Hello in Thai!) Hope everyone is well, thanks for your messages! Well weve been in Thailand over a week now already and we are having fun! Since we last wrote we had our last day in Bangkok, wanted to see the Royal Palace and Golden Budda but they were closed coz of festival for King's bday so we went to see the Standing Budda instead - it was massive! Really strange tho coz there are these massive temples all made of gold and jewels in the middle of shanty towns. We left Bangkok on Sunday afternoon and drove to Singburi which is about 3 hours north and is kinda in the middle of nowhere - nobody speaks english & no tourists so feels like we are really in Thailand!! The house we ... read more

After a long 2 hours travelling to Singburi from Bangkok (a good chance to get to know people I hadn't chatted to yet), we reached the Twin House ecohouse which will be our home for the next three weeks (fourth week is beach week on Koh Samet!). It's in the middle of nowhere but it's very quiet and peaceful, with a nice little garden in between the dining area and bedrooms. Was anxious to get a bottom bunk so I could put my mosquito net up, but it turned out I didn't need to rush as there is only five people in our room - Nina, blonde Jess, Gemma and Lauren (who are travelling together) and me! Very impressed with the bathroom in particular after our not-so-luxurious hut last month - not a rat in sight! ... read more

So I've arrived safely in Thailand! Katie and I struggled awake at 3.30am, thanks to three alarms, as Katie hasn't exactly got the best track record for getting up in time for flights!! (We left for KL airport without her on the first day!) Got to Kota Bharu airport for 5am to find it totally deserted! We were starting to get worried when the staff rolled in around 45 minutes later! No hurry or anything- it's not as if we had a plane to catch or anything! I thought Dad and Mark would have had a fit having only 45 minutes until my flight! But no panic - caught the plane on time. Was pretty tired after flying from Kota Bharu to KL to Singapore and then to Bangkok - the flight attendents always seem to ... read more

Hi all Sorry about not getting the blog yesterday but the damn thing crashed as I was saving it so now have to start all over again! Well we wokeup Tuesday morning and got ready as usual and opened our bedroom door to go round to the communal area for breakfast and found the pond on our doorstep. Due to a huge amount of rain during the night most of the eco house was flooded including alot of the bedrooms, luckily not ours. We had to wade through about a foot of manky pond water to get to breakfast which was nice and they had to get pumps in to get rid of it all. During breakfast I turned my phone on and had a million messages checking all okay as everyone had heard the news ... read more

Hi all Well have started work at the Orphanage. Just to re cap the children are from Hill Tribes up in the North of Thailand, the Hill Tribes are ethnic minorities who live in the Mountainous regions. Each tribe has their own language, cultures, dress etc, so most of the children at the school come here not knowing any Thai as in this schools case their language is Akha and they learn Thai as they go. Most tribes originate from Tibet, China and Laos and have come here over the past 200 years, they are described as 4th world people and have the lowest standard of living. They do not have Thai citizenship and therefore have no right to own land and are not allowed health care and schooling. In the past decade the government has ... read more

Hi all Bit of a varied week this week as spent the first part with Monks and then the second part of the week in the biggest red light district in Thailand! On Monday with had a day learning about Buddhism and Monks and things. Not wildly exciting but got a background on the religion and decided it is more of a way of life than a religion here and I must say it is far simpler than other religions with quite a basic story of how it started and the general facts about it. Although when we watched a video someone had managed to get hold of a copy of the Daily Express which I read throughout as found this far more interesting. On Tuesday we were off to start our stay at the Monastary ... read more
