Tuesday
I woke up not knowing what day of the week it was. When George woke the kids and told Sam it was twelve o’clock mid day Sam wouldn't believe it. Apparently, when we all went to bed last night, Sam decided that, as the bathroom was rather swish, he would have a soak in the bath. I thought that was histerical as we were all so tired from our journey I thought that both the kids would crash out immediately.
We all put on our bath robes and went up to the roof hoping a swim would wake us up. I have never swam in an infinity pool twenty five floors high before and I thought it was quite magical.
Later a pink taxi cab took us to The River Restaurant beside the Chao Phraya River and as we ate our delicious Thai brunch we watched the long tail boats and the enormous barges going up and down the choppy waters. We were across the river from Wat Arun which was looking bright and new after recently being restored. It was a much paler colour than when I was here with Chrissie.
After brunch we went on a long tail
boat ride round the klongs which was such a super thing to do with the kids. They were fascinated by the rickety wooden stilt houses with washing hanging on lines, ducks in crates, dogs tied up, chickens and general chaos. We saw several monitor lizards, about a meter long, slithering through the water which was exciting. Mollie bought a little purse from a lady selling her wears from her boat. After the very interesting tour we came out onto the main river and docked. The water was very choppy so I struggled to climb up the large black tires tied to the high side of the dock and after being pushed and pulled I ended up in a heap on the ground with a group of people standing, open mouthed, around me. So funny - its things like that that I lay in bed laughing to myself about.
We had docked near the flower market so we wandered round looking at the beautiful flowers and arrangements. There were hundreds of bundles of decapitated roses with piles of roses petals beside them.
Georgie hailed two tuk tuks and we had a hair raising but exciting ride to the hotel where we
had another swim on the roof. This time there were several other people there. We watched the sun go down and the lights of Bangkok pop on. So beautiful.
In the evening we went to The Khao San Road which was full of live music and buzzing with atmosphere. The children were very interested in the cockroaches, scorpions and other delicious morsels on offer? After having diner and another wander around we were pleased to get back to the hotel and snuggle down in our comfy beds. Georgie went up to the sky bar and we went to sleep?
