Wake up about 02:00 and as Thai TV had advertised they were showing the England v Norway football match at 2:15 turn the TV on and wait. I wasnt really surprised when the game didnt appear as they actually played last night and the same TV channel had already shown highlights on the news earlier on. Back to sleep.
This was a real sleep as the next thing I know it is nearly midday !! Adding the two sleeps together we have been out for about 14 hours.
We drag ourselves up and out and as it is now lunchtime make our way to our usual Chinese noodle shop for brunch.
Walk to the bank to deposit the money I changed last night and am still shocked at having to pay 1.65 GBP for the pleasure of using their services. A quick stop at the 7/11 then back to the room. It doesnt feel nearly as hot or humid today which is a good thing.
I persuade Jai to phone her daughter to check what time she will be coming for us tomorrow morning. No surprises to discover that she cant make it. Apparently she has just noticed that the car isnt insured
and she wont be able to do that until Monday at the earliest so ... We head back out and take a taxi to Mo Chit bus station and get tickets for the 20:00 bus tomorrow night.
The taxi driver who brings us back to the guest house must have thought it was a good time to rip off a tourist but he chose the wrong mark. I soon spotted he was heading in the wrong direction but left things for a few minutes in case he was just taking a different route. He continued off course so In raised the question of did he know where he was going etc. He doesnt seem too bothered until I take a photo of his taxi licence ID in the window and he asks Jai what I am doing. She tells him I will post it on the internet and make a complaint about him. He quickly takes a side street and we are soon back on course. I tell him we only paid 100Bht for the trip to Mo Chit so when he drops us off, even though the meter reads 140Bht he insists that I only pay 100Bht and is full
of apologies.
We sit in the park by the river for a while enjoying the surprisingly refreshing breeze till a rain cloud passes over and a few spots start to fall.
We return to the room with a coffee. I give George a quick call to tell him we are back and I am bringing books to his rescue.
Go out to eat about 19:00 then sit at Gecko Bat for a beer. Had been told that the new 'Govt' were clamping down on beer advertising but there is little sing of that around here. Walk Jai back to the guest house then I go back out for another couple of beers and a chat with German guy and French girl about their travels. The bars all close around midnight so perhaps that is part of the new clampdown ?
