We left Phuket on the day of Songkran - the Thai water festival where it seems everyone squirts everyone else with water. I was half glad to be leaving it, but a little sad too.
We arrived back in Bangkok just after lunch after a quick flight from Phuket. It was raining when we arrived, but as it was Songkran it really didn't matter! Our driver drove us along Khao San Road where large groups of young people with massive hoses squirted everything in site and then sprinkled it with flour. Looked like great fun from inside a car.
We spent more time in MBK to finish our shopping then headed to Sirocco for predinner drinks. We had actually planned to go to Vertigo, but we inadvertently asked for directions to the Sky Bar rather than the Moon Bar and we ended up at the State Tower which didn't matter as we hadn't been able to make up our minds which one to visit.
Dress code is very important at these venues, whilst my husband was dressed correctly in long pants and covered shoes, our 12 year old son only had ¾ pants which Vertigo had said was okay for children. This
Family Drinks at Breeze in the State Tower
Deb, Gary, Steph & Jayden at Breeze at State Tower was not the case at Sirocco. Staff at the lifts refused to let
him up to the Sky Bar but allowed us up to Breeze the 52nd floor. The setting and the view were superb. The kids then said that they would wait in the lobby while we went up to check out the Sky Bar at Sirocco.
While we enjoyed this and were glad to see it, we both felt that Breeze was the better, more attractive venue for drinks.
We then headed to the Peninsula Hotel on the Chao Praya River for the buffet dinner on the Riverside Terrace. This was a wonderful dinner with everything we chose cooked freshly for us. The whole evening was very expensive by Thai standards but certainly no dearer than comparable drinking and dining in 5 star hotels in Melbourne.
The Peninsula Hotel and its setting was absolutely beautiful - another place to remember if we are ever lucky enough to get back to Thailand.
