Mountain...
My first glimpse of a mountain in Thailand Hey hey all!!
Well after my quiet week last week, this one has proven to be something that I'll remember for a long time to come! I can now say that after 3 weeks in Thailand, I have ventured out of Bangkok and seen some of the lovely countryside there is available.
Monday and Tuesday were class usual. Tuesday night was spent relaxing in Cara's and trying to get over the heat - yes, we are still battling with it, it's taking a long time to get used to it!
At around 11pm, Roy, our agent for castings and extra's work, gave me a call and asked if I would be interested to be an extra in a Virgin's Holiday advert being filmed in Krabi. Couldn't say no and so at 11 the next morning, a group of us girls all piled into taxi's and the BTS and off we went to meet out bus and the rest of the extra's, most of which we'd worked with on the golf commercial.
After a long and quite exhausting 12 hour bus trip down south, we arrived in our City Hotel at around 1am. Hungry and in desperate need of a beer,
we were taken to this little pub a few blocks away where we spent the next few hours enjoying the fresh air and getting to know each other a bit more.
Another late night but it's all good when the work only starts at 3pm the next day. So in true South African form, an after a bit of a late start, we made our way to the closest beach via motorbike taxi. It was incredible! For the first time since arrivinin Thailand did we feel that we were actually in Thailand. The beach was incredible! The water was still, the sun was shining away and he sand was just what our feet had been craving! This might sound really crazy mostly due to the fact that we've only been here for 3 weeks, but it's incredible how aware you become of the lack of nature's influence when you are in the centre of a city like Bangkok.
Therefore it didn't take long before all of us girs had stripped down to our bikini's and were in the water. We all mused after the fact that shoud we have been in the same stuation back in South Africa, we
probably would've been a lot more self conscious, but obviously - TIT!!!
So the water was incredibly warm yet still amazingly refreshing and for the next 30 minutes we were enjoying this experience as though it was the first time we had seen the sea! As amazing as it was, we needed to end it as we had to be able to say that we'd had lunch on the beach! So off we missioned to find a restaurant and our main concern was LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!!! The food was fabulous and we all tried to order something different, or mostly somethng that we hadn't eaten in Bangkok. We were not dissappointed. But time was running out and we needed to be back at the hotel by 3 as the bus would be leaving to take us to our shoot. So our same motorbike taxi driver collected us and off we went back to City Hotel 😊
The bus dropped us off at the same beach, where we had spent the last few hours - murphy! But... we were to get onto a Long Tail boat and go over to one of the nearby islands. I thought this was fabulous
and just as we were all taking out our camera's and thinking what awesome pics we were going to be able to take whle on the boat and as we arrived at the island, the heavens opened and our camera's had to be put back in our hopefully waterproof bags. The trip was not as great as the brochures make it out to be as the water was really choppy and if it wasn't the rain soaking us, it was the spray coming up from the waves breaking against the boat!! Wonderful! Just in case we thought we hadn't had our fair share of sea water during our swim, we were able to experience it once more. We arried at the island and literally ran across the jetty to try and find shelter. We were drenched! Those of us who managed to look up and around at our surroundings would have been quite pleasantly surprised as this litte resort we were at was absolutely incredible! It was a place that I would be very fortunate to work at, let alone stay at. It was built along and up the side of a mountain and was incredible.
Some of our bags
were soaked through and all we wanted was a shower and a dry towel. The towel materialised and there we all sat, like a bunch of drowned rats, trying to towel dry our hair and clothes. I was lucky enough as my change of clothes were dry and I was able to change into them as soon as possible. Those with wet clothes were offered the wardrobe some of the extra's were dressed in certain cocktail dresses and shoes. No problem any more then! Our hair and make-up was done and we were taken down to the restaurant for our dinner. Our shoot was only starting at 10 so it was quite relaxed.
After our meal we were able to relax and enjoy our surroundings. We were called down to the bar which had been temporarily converted to a restaurant for the shoot. It was quite lovely! There was this massive fish tank in the wall and the chairs were made out of a sort of drift wood. This location had been chosen perfectly and we were, of course, very grateful to have been a part of it. My part in the movie was to sit at a table, eat
sushi and made idle chit chat for 3 other gentlemen at the table. After an hour of retakes our job was done! Who could complain?
The following day was spent on the bus, which was perfect for most, as the open bar offered after the shooting was starting to affect many, so let me just say that it was a very quiet drive back!
Saturday was spent in soi 19 and we pretty much did nothing. We compared Krabi photos, uploaded them on facebook etc and before we knew it the day was gone.
Korn and his wife took 4 of us to the night market just before midnight. It's a wholesale flower market and it's absolutely incredible. We walked through the clothing stall first as this market is right across the road from the flowers. Well, say you arrived in Bangkok with nothing but your hand luggage and you needed an urgent shopping trip? You go to this place. Clothing of every size, design and age (both new and second hand available!), tattoos every 20m, snakes, rabbits in dresses, Thai porn, shoes, bra straps, you getting the picture? So after about 5 minutes of walking through it seems
as if you're walking the same stretch over and over again. It was fascinating! So we crossed the road and marvelled at the flowers. They were beautiful. The quality is perfect and the different colours, smells, sizes and atmosphere is enough to lift your spirits from any level. It's a complete senses overload.
Tonight Tracey and I are going to watch her friend, Nick, play guitar at a restaurant near Khao San Road. Looking forward to it and to the change of scenery so should be great!
Til next time...
Ciao Ciao Bye!
