Day 2 - Bangkok.

Didn't get around to catching up on our blog yesterday, so now sat in Bangkok airport waiting for our flight to Cambodia so seems a good thing to catch up on.

We had one full day in Bangkok before starting our travels and today we had a mission, and that was to find the standing Buddha, Wat Intrawihan, we have been to Bangkok twice before and on both occasions tried to find this sight but failed. So today we set out in search of it map in hand, we knew it was within walking distance of where we were staying. Now I call Stan the Navigator, and today he didn't fail, I just followed behind, we took a few wrong turns down some dodgy looking places but we got there in the end, and yes, it was worth the wait, a very impressive sight indeed.
Now that was achieved it was the decision of what to do for the rest of day, so we decided to head for Bangkok centre, the next decision was what mode of transport do we use, now on our last trip to Bangkok we realised that it is much cheaper

The Navigator Stan, he got us here
and faster to travel by water, using the river taxi boats, so we walked back to the Golden Mount and caught the river taxi from there, only took 10 mins to get to the centre and only cost the equivalent of 32 cents Euro for the two of us, so for anyone visiting Bangkok, then its worth checking out this mode of transport before jumping in a tuk tuk or road taxi if your on a tight budget. Once in the centre we go and pig out at MBK food hall, this is a large shopping mall with a massive food hall in there, you buy coupons then go to whatever stall you decide or several and pay using the coupons, I decided on Roast Duck and Rice and Stan had Stir Fried Duck, now I had been looking forward to this for so long, as had eaten on our first trip to Thailand, but I have to say this time I was disappointed, tasted nothing like I wanted it too, but hey I enjoyed it all the same, Stans was much tastier than mine.
Didn't get back to the hotel until fairly late as had a good walk around

I found a gym, a little bit of rust though...
the centre then caught the river taxi back. Booked our bus ticket to get us back to the airprot, decided to book the express bus to go back and this cost 150 THB - 3 Euro each. Last night we decided to eat at one of the local street food sellers and had a really nice meal, Red Curry, Phad Thai and Chicken/Ginger washed down by 3 large beers, not sure if I told you this in the last blog but the beers are fairly large here, 640ml bottles, so doesn't take long for 2 beers to go to your head. To walk some of this off we walked along Khao San Rd nearly bought some sandals, they were leather and were on 2 Euro, and really nice, will check out on our return to Bangkok, but did buy some new headbands, then went to bed in the hope that we were so tired we would sleep regardless of the noise from the street below, and we did........
