Our room at Fancy GH Day 3....
Got up early today, as had to check out from hotel by 11am, plus we had booked our ticket to the airport for 11am, want to try and check out the bus times to Rayong again so this will give us enough time as don't fly till 3.15pm. Had our first wander around 7-11 today, its the equivalent of a Spar store in the UK, has a bit of everything, plus, we love them.. We normally have a 7-11 run first thing in the morning, as you can get a good cup of coffee from there, but this time so far we havne't done that, again if your on a tight budget, check out this store, they have them everywhere in Thailand..
Went to catch our bus at 11am and it turned up more or less ontime got us to the airport in good time as well, so good service I have to admit. Found out what we needed about bus to Rayong, but its not going to be easy as our plane arrives just a little too late to catch it, so looks like we will have to re plan that part of our journey.
Well, we

Beef and noodles Cambodian style, so tasty have arrived in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Oh my what a place, the drive from the airport, well thats all I can tell you is, it was a white knuckle ride, if you ever want to know where the motorbike companies sell their bikes its certainly in this country, the roads are full of them, and they come from every direction, even down one way streets, frightening, would I ever ride pillion in this country, never in a million years.. Took us about half an hour to get from the airport to our guesthouse, We are staying at a place called Fancy Guesthouse, the GH itself is spotlessly clean, he gave us a choice of two rooms, one of the ground floor and one on the third floor, the ground floor one had no windows plus it was just off the main corridor and after the place we just stayed in at Bangkok, the last thing we wanted was another noisy room so needless to say we chose the 3rd floor room. Its very large, has AC and a TV with the same satellite channels as we get back home, even the football, so Stan is well happy.
What I haven't

Beef and short noodles, again so tasty mentioned yet is the area this GH is in, well, its a little in the backstreets of Phnom Penh and there is an awful lot of poverty around here, but I know this is the case in all of Cambodia, something we are going to have to face. WEe had arrived in the dark and as we all know places can look a little deceiving in the dark, our GH doesn't do coffee etc, so we were sent to the local supermarket to get one, and I can tell you now I didn't let go of Stans' hand, we had tuk tuk drivers, bikers, taxi drivers all offering their services, a little frightening in the dark, so we got our coffee, packet of biscuits and made a quick dash back to the GH..
We are only spending the night here as off to Siam Rep tomorrow, and the guy who owns the GH is really helpful, he has organised our bus to Siam Reap and back and also rang our GH there to let them know what time are are arriving so that they can pick us up, its less transfer time (4.5 hrs) as its a mini bus and

This is what they do with paper napkins, maybe its a sign of a busy place?? only costing us $2 more than the service bus so its worth it in our eyes. We are also stopping at a spider market on the way, oh boy aren't I looking forward to that one, NOT, will let you know how that one goes..
Just been out for our first experience of Cambodian food, have to say it was not easy finding somewhere in this area that you want to eat, I think its mainly due to the fact that we arrived in the dark and it all looks so uneasy on the streets, anyway after a walk around the block we noticed a place that had tasty looking noodles, so we took the plunge and we have to say, we had noodle with beef and it was so tasty. One observation we had noticed while walking around was that there were lots of paper napkins thrown on the floors, and after spending time in our eatery we came to the conclusion, or to show people that the food is good if they lots of them on the floor, I just couldn't do it though and threw mine in the paper basket that is placed under the table, it was empty until I threw mine in...
Ok, thats it for today, we have an early start in morning, we set off at 6.30am.....

Just logged on to read about your travels. It's gale force winds here in Rhodes today and quite frightening up in hills - found the dog's kennel shattered and blown half way down the road!!Could do with some of that Cambodian sunshine now. The photos are great and I am really starting to enjoy your holiday. Will make sure I log on daily to follow your antics! Love to you both and take care.
