So the travels start from today, it was so nice to have a late start today, didn't have to fly until 12.30 . Left from Rhodes right ontime, were able to check our bags all the way through to Bangkok but we weren't able to ourselves so had to re-check in at Athens, which wasn't a problem as arrived nice and early before everyone else. Only had a 2 hour wait in Athens so had a bit of fresh air and then a walk around airport before going through to departure lounge. Once again flight left right on-time.. Have to say Thai Airways really are nice to fly with, all the cabin crew are so polite. Apparently we had a much bigger plane than they would normally use on this route, great for us as we each had our own mini TV's in the bag of each seat , so we settled in for our 9 hr flight. Choice of movies was great, and up to date ones as well so had a quick play around with that and decided which films I was going to watch and then our food came, once again I have to say Thai Airways don't
let you down, it was so tasty and a lot of food as well, free wine, beer, whatever you wanted really. As I said earlier it was a 9 hr flight, now for those of you that know me know that I don't normally watch movies, but I thought this time, hey what the hell, lets watch some, so cannot believe this myself I watched 3 movies, and loved them all, even had a cry with the one.. Stan did pretty much the same but didn't watch movies but documentaries and listened to music. Unfortunately neither of us were able to sleep, just couldn't drop off.
So landed at the scheduled time in Bangkok, passed through immigration without any hick-ups and then went to collect our bags, as soon as we got to the carousel I noticed one of our bags, then we waited patiently for the other to come, and wait we did, but it didn't arrive, this is always my fear when traveling that one of our bags doesn't come through. So off we go to report it missing hoping that by this time something will show on the computer if its been left in Athens, but nothing, so they take our details of where we are staying and tell us that it will probably turn up tomorrow. So we left the airport hoping that it does and not go missing for long as we leave Bangkok in 2 days time. We then found our way to catch the shuttle bus to the main bus station hoping to find out some information about the bus we will need to catch on our return from Cambodia to take us to Rayong,
bit of a waste of time there as didn't get any joy on that one. Good thing though was the bus to Khao-san road cost 66 Bht for the both of us, big difference from the taxi price or the bus from the airport, bus from airport would of cost us 150 Bht each. We then spent best part of 1 hour walking around Khao-san area looking for our hotel as could'nt get our bearings, eventually found the sister hotel where we had previously stayed, and they escorted us around there. Got to reception and as soon as she saw my name she said that they had been in touch from the airport and would be delivering our suitcase this afternoon, yippee, so probably our bag was at the airport all along. Never mind now, its turned up and that's all I care about, I mean, come on my hairdryer is in the bag, a girl can't live without that....... We are now totally shattered as have had no sleep now in 24 hrs, so its an early night for us tonight....We are staying at a Guesthouse not far from Khao San Rd, its called New Siam 1, room is clean, but overlooking the main street, a little busy but then we are only here for 2 nights and are so exhausted as we said that I doubt if we will here a thing, but for the price we paid, can't complain, cleanliness is always an important thing with us, staff friendly and food and prices are very good.
Just a lat entry before uploading, suitcase turned up thank God, and now sat enjoying our first Chang beer....and have also just finished our first of many we are sure, Street Phad Tahi.....ahhhhhhhhh.... till the next time

hair dryer
Good thing you found your dryer Sha, but being in Thailand you could always have stood behind an elephants arse while he was farting to dry your hair! Hows the beer there Stan? keith and Glynis xx
