Panang island to Bangkok

Panang HarbourPanang HarbourPanang Harbour

And Georgetown.

From Panang Island we headed back to Butterworth for our overnight journey to Bangkok.

Couldn't believe our eyes when we bumped into "Will" again who was also heading that way.

Also met another brit "Alex" who was also on his travels.
Great company and we were able to swop a few stories along the way.

We arrived in Bangkok not really knowing what to expect.
Many people along the way had told us that it's not worth spending a lot of time there.

Alas, they were wrong!!!

We had a fantastic time...

The accomodation was second to none.
A hostel which was fairly new, felt more like a hotel.

Breakfast was included and served at the resturant next door, see picture....

We made full use of a day ticket for the Skytrain and spent a day sight seeing up and down the stations.

Enjoy the photos of our first few days.

Chinese Junk?

The temple's singular attraction is its very unusual wiharn in the shape of a Chinese junk. The wiharn was built on the orders of King Rama III, who saw steam ships replacing the old junks, and wanted the people to remember the old ships that had originally bought so much prosperity to the kingdom. The 'ship' is made out of concrete, with two chedis where the masts would normally be. The alter is in the wheel house above the stern

Bangkok? I'm not making any quips...
Big, innit? Lovely pics! Hey, aren't you two getting any mozzy bites? You aren't touching up yer photos, are you? You both seem to gleam and look healthily brown... not much of that look in Eign Gate, I can confirm. Are you off to countryside soon, or more city-hitting? As you don't seem to want my travel spinach, perhaps you can sell some for me at the market, sigh. [tragic look] And am I alone in thinking the skytrain was in Seattle? Do *I* need a map? Cheers, Jane

Was doing ok, till you mentioned it - Now have two. The worst place so far for them was Surat Thani Station, had about 30 between us that night....
