WOW!!!WOW!!!WOW!!!

Whats going on here then...

On the last day of our stay in Thailand,
we planned to visit some more places of interest.

Our first stop was a taxi ride to the Palace.....
On arriving, we noticed something of importance was going to occur.

There was a small gathering coming together and lots of activity going on.
So not wanting to miss out, we hung around.....

Within minutes, there were marching soldiers and a band playing.
Turns out, this was the first of two rehearsals prior to the parade for the Kings 80th birthday.

We were fortunate to be able to watch behind the scenes,
as everyone practised before going on to the square to do their part.

We were able to talk to some of the thai people who were there.
They told us how loved the King was and that he was like a father figure who looked after them.

Obviously our plans to see other things of interest were soon forgotten,
as we enjoyed the splender of the parade well into the evening.

It was a privilage to watch the parade and to learn how
Well its the kings palace...Well its the kings palace...Well its the kings palace...

Yes! But why all the marching bands!!!!
much his people think of him.

Hope you enjoy our pictures and video of the day as much as we did........................

Decided later to do a google on the King and found this.
Thought it might be of interest to you all.....

Following the completion of his education in Switzerland in the early 1950s, His Majesty returned home to Thailand.
In the years following, he began what has become his way of life - traveling throughout the year to the provinces and rural areas of the kingdom to visit his people, talk to them and, perhaps even more important, listen to them.
He learns first hand of their needs and their problems and then sets about trying to find a way of giving immediate help; later these problems are studied in depth to find a permanent solution or way of assistance.
He became the ninth king of Thailand's Chakri dynasty on June 9, 1946.
He succeeded his older brother Ananda, who died in an unexplained shooting.
Bhumibol is a constitutional king with no formal political role, but he has repeatedly brought calm in times of turbulence and is considered the country's moral

authority and a unifying figure.
He has reigned through a score of governments, democratic and dictatorial.
In his six decades on the throne, he has taken an especially active role in rural development and is respected for his dedication to helping the country's poor. .-AP:
