Me in BKK City- downtown
The fume are so thick in the city I had to cover my mouth to breathe... YUK!! I was in a tuk tuk... Well- first 3 days in BKK... WOW!... how can I put it... LOTS of crazyness going on here...
Day 1-- well of course its just like me to 'lose' my return ticket home in the HKK airport.! ha!.. Do you think the universe is telling me something!... on the way here I had been so scared as to what I was going to experience.. language barrier, no groups, no Mom, no scheduled agenda, ect.... so freaked.... Then I get to my hotel.. Bossotel.. nice, clean, friendly.. close to the Shangri la and Oriental.. very expensive hotels... and soon do I realize very FAR from ' foreigners'... just perfect! ha...
On my way to the city.... stret vendors everywhere selling everything from clothes, VERY strange looking food oh (and a bit nauseus smelling bythe way), and just stuf galore.. I just dont get it . they are all selling the same stuff.. and peeps seem to buy it all.. werid....Whats with the yellow and pink shirts??... Most of the Thais are wearing these colors.. I later find out its for the King and Queen...All year they wear these colors to celebrate the Kings 80th BDAY!. sweet!..
Take a trip
View from the peir near my hotel
Massive river that is used for transporting... on the infamous 'skytrains' .. what a concept.. BKK traffic is gnarly.. so-- smart people decided to build transportation over it.. perfect!.. once you figure it out.. it ROCKS!.. about .30cents to go from one part of town to the next!. sweet!.. then into the MBK ( mall).. but think Fashion times 200!.. like 8 levels of EVERYTHING you can think of for dirt cheap.. designer jeans. 10$..clothes, purses, jewerly, luggage, shoes, .. a whole level for just cell phones!! YIKES!!...
So--I somehow managed my way into the streets.. WHOA!.. you have to look both ways like 100 xs before crossing .. they DO NOT stop for you!..So I discovered this trick-- I get behind a little asian woman/man..( I think they now know what Im doing).. and I just stick to them like glue to get accross.. its hilarious!!!...they laugh at me bc I totally freak!....
Day2--Up at 530am.. take the train to Lumphini Park.. its like Central park in NYC.. a huge green area with artifical lake in the midst of a polluted city.. nicceee... peeps are walking/jogging/ thai chi/yoga/ dancing/ chanting.ect... LOVE it.. As i begin my walk around like the oters...All of a sudden-- there
Stereo anyone...
There was a whole long street filled with stereos, speakers, radios...ect... it was a LOUD street! HA! is a whistle-- everyine STOPS! even the runners... stands still..and just stare into the sky... So-- I of course do the same... as I listen thee is faint music playing.. it must have been the 'national anthem' for them.. not sure..?.. interesting..
So- Im challenged with the whole book your room and decide where to go next routine... ugh! not fun.. I had to change hotels.. like 5 streets down.. Im a dork.. Once I get situated I decide to venture to the river boats.. GREAT concept again!... its like 10 cents to get to all the different Peirs up river.. you can pay ike $20 for a 1-2 hour tour of all the Wats and temples... I just went up to the Grand Palace.. GORGEOUS!! .. Very gaudy.. lots of bling bling.. I send pics soon.. but just amazing stuff!...
So after- I decide to venture out trying to find this road.. koa san rd.. ( THANK YOU ZANK)!..ummmm... I went right smack dab into the heart of Cina town!!WHOOOAAA!!.. WHAT IS THAT SMELL!!!!????the streets are packed with vendors selling there 'lunch menus'.SOOOO strange!..
Its really werid.. I stummbled upon this LOUD street only selling car stereos,
Park in the city
View from the Park I went to in the morning.. very pretty..I dont think all the trees can clean out all the exhaust.... huge speakers, radios, ect.. then another selling car tires and rims.. very strange...
Honeslty-up until now- I had not eaten ANYTHING!..Its just very odd.. adn Im just not ready for street food yet!... SI lose myself into this whole culture shock... until I see this Thai lady escorting a US couple into a taxi.. so I ask her if she could please help me!..Well-- I made my fist Thai friend, Sunny.. very sweet lady.. she live in New Hampshire with her US husband.. I think he bougt her.??. not sure.. She doesnt work there.. he is in RE as well.. She is over here bc her mom just died... She works the as a tour guide for the Temples...
So- ever so kindly- she offers to show me around since she just got off work and has free time.... We hopped on a 'longboat' to Koa san rd.! WHEEWWWW!!!!...
Its like God just opened up the asian seas for me... what a totally different scene.. 2-3 streets filled with vendors selling same stuff- but strategically designed just for (US backpackers)..duh!.. why didnt I come here sooner!.. Honestly-- I was freaking til then.. thinkining I was becoming one of the
Grand Palace
Me at the Palace.. It was truly a beautiful place... very gaudy gold, shiny mosaics... Impressive.. little asian gals! haaa!!... So-- we endedup hanging there all night... Sunny wanted to take me to Patong Rd.... a nightclub district that I think is like the Red light.... I really didnt want to go with just her... So we chilled..
My bill: pad thai dinners ( YUMMY) for 2, 6 large Shinga beers, 4 waters-- $12~ YES!...love it!...
i ended up meeting another SINGLE GIRL TRAVELER ( Dad - you can relax --Im going to be OK😊)... Taryn-- just came from 6 weeks in Nepal- volunteering.. Shes doing the same route I am... but leaving 3 days from now...
It is definetly a relief for me to finally meet someone from US.. I was freaking out a little bit.. Im OK now..😊..
Off to Chiang Mai today... Im excited!..
LOVE! B
