Ooh that smell…
Yes, inspired by my recent attendance at Lynard Skynard concert in Savannah. After walking past and smelling this, I couldn’t get the song out of my head. Those guys must have been here too. I forgot to mention earlier that when I came into the hotel Tuesday, the one bellhop from last visit came running over to me and greeted me like we were long lost friends. I remember him because I was having him help me with write something in Thai for Fahlaep’s birthday surprise on my last day of the previous trip. And today, the manager of the Espresso Cafe in the hotel, where I’ve been having lunch and writing, came up to me and greeted me. A little disappointing to find the Espresso Cafe doesn’t have the sandwiches I was getting last time, so I’m going to have to find other options for lunch. I’ll probably still go there for the icy beverage and typing environment. It also gives housekeeping a chance to clean, and it’s always good to get out of the hotel room.
After the Oreo macchiato was finished, I spent some time today exploring and looking for the best exchange rate. I checked on a few of the old standbys close to the hotel, and was looking for restaurants new and old for future reference. The rate I got was 35.42THB to the dollar, which is a pretty
Running reminder
For those who’ve been here, you’ll recognize this sign and the seemingly endless road that is the running track. good rate right at the moment. Now I need to pay my 10 day fee this afternoon. I’m going to get there a bit early so I can maybe finish a little early today. I feel another big crash coming on. Part of it may be not drinking enough water. I did find the little grocery mart down the block is still there. The prices aren’t really better than the much closer 7-11.
So far today, I’ve logged 10.4 miles before the afternoon session begins, and pretty much at the end of the day, I’ve finished with nearly 18 miles. The trip back from the morning session on the BTS was the most crowded I’ve ever seen. I’m sure those poor people enjoyed squeezing in next to my sweaty clothes, and probably an even more pleasant aroma! The weather is still fairly nice, although today felt hotter than yesterday. When I got to the gym, it was packed! Santi told me to move my gear over near the rings. Seems there was some part of a movie being shot at the gym, and they were running a bit behind. No extra roles for me, so I went out to
Fahlaep still has it
He’s still banging away with the pads. After I was done, he was still going with another guy. That’s a long day. run. Six laps again, and the first 5 felt really good, and only the last started to hurt a bit. Hope I keep increasing the tolerance for running. Not sure if the actor was training for filming or if they were taping his training in the ring. I only caught glimpses as I ran by. They were gone when I finished. It was 12 minutes of jump rope this afternoon. The rounds were similar to the morning. Four rounds with the same punching and kicking patterns. The first round was a nice, easy warm up round. After round 2, I must have seemed a bit worn out because I got the ice water rubdown after each of the next rounds. Round 3 was the challenge round. It was another of those painful multiples of everything, except we started with 20 kicks each side. That pretty well crushed my spirit doing those. But the round continued with more punches, teeps, knees, and then finished with more kicks. One more round on the heavy bags and then finished. I was worn out this afternoon, and the walk to the BTS was just a bit slower than in the morning. I was getting
Happiest sight
I forgot how much I look forward to this escalator ride up to the train. This afternoon session reminded me of that. a bit crampy in the bag round, so I’m sure I need to drink more water.
Once again, when I got to the hotel room, I probably could have just dropped onto the bed for the night. I did head out to a new close place to eat. It’s an Irish place just across from the German restaurant. The menu had some nice Thai dishes, but I figured I better go for something more substantial to fuel up for tomorrow. Heading back now to look for the bottle of Aleve….
I spent some time proofreading, and lots of mistakes and autocorrects. Sorry if some of the previous entries had some nonsensical words included.
