The local bus
Probably one of the cheapest options for travel is this local bus. I don’t know what they charge, but it can’t be much. People just jump on and off, and go to the front to pay the driver. Today will be the last two-a-day workout for the trip. Finishing today will leave me with only one tomorrow morning. I’m hoping the weather is not as hot, but the forecast is hot and steamy again today. Maybe the extra time off yesterday afternoon will help. I’ve got just enough room left on the video card for maybe one more session, so I’m going to try and record the last one tomorrow. I finished mostly all of the shopping last night.
The morning went very well again. I was the only one training. Running was still 11 laps and the temperature was 94F with the heat index at 105 and climbing. The last 3 laps were hard to get through, but I was just counting in my head in Thai and it seemed to distract from the heat. Same 10 minute jumprope, and glove up for pad work. The other American here didn't train this morning. I’m wondering if he realized what he signed up for when he booked this training.
The pad work has been constant at 4 rounds, but the intensity has increased every day, and the in-round breaks have decreased to practically nothing today. I used
local transport
This may be the best way to get around. There are lots of taxis, but the traffic is terrible and they get stuck everywhere. The motorbikes will weave in and out, go down the other lane of traffic if no one is there. A little more risk, but much quicker. the shin pad on my left again today, and that seemed to help protect my left foot, and reduce the number of kicks required on the right leg. I spent almost two rounds working as a lefty, with the right lead. Sometimes it felt like I had better power with the left cross rather than my normal right cross, but my right hook is better than my left. The rounds were good, and I’m exhausted, but Ajahn keeps showing that everyday I’m getting better by a sort of sign language. Now in between rounds, he gets water for me and pours it over my head and arms. The water is sometimes so cold it doesn’t shock you into taking a deep breath, but it is so cold it feels like it burns. It’s a crazy contradiction, but it’s the best way I can describe it.
Another American, from LA, dropped in for a few training sessions. Appears he’s heard really good things about the gym too. The afternoon was really hot. Since this was the last afternoon, I added one more lap for 7 as I was feeling pretty good during the run. Now, the bad news was that
Hotel fish tank
Gone is the big monster fish, now it’s just a couple of tanks with standard fish. Just looking to add some pictures... I left my nice, light leather jumprope at the hotel, so I had to use one of the plastic hose gym jumpropes that weigh a ton. My shoulders were burning after 3 minutes. I had to take breaks about every two minutes to make it through. I’ve already packed the jump rope for tomorrow morning.... I recorded the routine 4 rounds with pads which seemed to continue getting harder. I think it was a set of 40 knees today along with all of the multiple kicks with each leg. And the end of round was the 10, 5, 3, 2, 1 kicks. And there’s always the weights and sit-ups to round out the day. Sitting at dinner, my feet are telling me that it was a lot of pad work today.
I feel bad for not exploring more restaurants or other areas, but at night, I just want to eat fast and get back to the room to rest. Luckily there are good places to eat that are close by.
