Day 1 It’s going to be a long day!
It was an early start this morning. The alarm was set for 5am. I’m am definitely not a morning person, and even though this is an exciting day, I do not get up easily! I do have a, ‘what I need to do plan’ in mind, but it fit really goto plan! When Ross arrived at 5:50am, I wasn’t quite in order! I didn’t get a drink, didn’t eat my toast, but at least had a bottle of water ready, and managed to put some lippy on! So not the best start to my day! Luckily for me, here is a coffee kiosk at Brough station… thank goodness, so at least I can still start my day with a coffee. I guess I’m going to have plenty of time to eat on the journey.
Train journey was easy, as was the crossing to Heathrow. Although, I was a bit surprised how long it has taken me, with no hitches on the way!
I left home at around 6am, it is now 11:45, I’m checked in, through security and waiting to order my brunch. I am so ready for a coffee!
Nice brunch! Enjoyed the coffee! Now off to board my first flight, Heathrow to Dubai. . I can’t believe how smooth and timely this has been, as I thought I was crazy early. I had originally planned to get the later train…. It’s a good job I never!
The flight went well, we even had a meal thrown in! It’s been such a long time since I did a long haul flight, you forget!
But I have to say,… WiFi on the plane….. how crazy is that. It blew my mind! Or am I just old, and out of touch! Although, to be honest, I couldn’t access it as I don’t have Skywards!!!! and wasn’t prepared to pay for the pleasure…. But the thought of it surprised me!
We did have a little delay setting off, only about 30 mins. It didn’t bother me as it didn’t seem to be a problem….. until we landed… oh noooo… I had 10 minutes to get through the airport, on the connection bus for a 20 minute drive to the terminal gate!!!! There were two guys on the desk… nodding and shaking their heads… one saying yes, she’ll make, the other saying no. Not sure if they took bets, but they let me try!! I was like a crazy person running through the airport, and being one of those really annoying people running along the escalator… repeatedly saying sorry! I made it to the bus, and the doors closed just as I got on! I was well chuffed with myself… until I found out I was at the right letter, as in ‘C’ gates, but had to continue the run to gate 3, by now I was a good 15 minutes late… it was like a scene off the telly….. and yes…. I made it! Honestly, I don’t know how I didn’t have a heart attack. I haven’t ran like that in years, and don’t want to do it again!
So I’m now happy to be sitting pretty on my next flight - Dubai to Columbo.
The flight was good… but then the calamity started! No suitcase!! The poor driver was waiting for two hours,.. bless him! He was soooo helpful, which was great, as I was distraught! Ha ha. He sorted me out, got me a SIM card and a bottle of water. So now I’m on my way on a two and a half hour drive to Weligama!
Hopefully my luggage won’t take too long to get to me!
