Well, it’s been a bit of a cyclone so far! Like the title… it’s actually day 3, but really feels like day 1!
Last night, I went to bed at about 8am, and slept until 9:30 am! I certainly needed that! When I got up, I have to say, I was feeling quite wobbly! The last couple f days have taken their toll on me!
I joined the group at the Basecamp for breakfast. It’s vegan menu here, so that’ll be interesting! I’m not even sure what was for breakfast, but I enjoyed it all the same!
During breakfast I had a visit from Ashkar, my driver from yesterday. I had left my jumper in his car. The people eye are just so lovely, he had come to return it to me!
And then, about half an hour later…. The luggage arrived!! Woop woop. I was so pleased to see it! For to reasons though. Obviously I was pleased to get my stuff for myself, but also I’ve got parcels from home for Ella. I was probably more excited about her reaction to those! Ella cried, and I cried watching Ella cry!!!!
The only reason I
came to Sri Lanka was to spend time with Ella. She is actually working, managing the yoga camp while I am here. I knew that before and came, so now I am ready to simply relax, and enjoy my time with Ella!
It’s lunchtime now, new guests are arriving this afternoon, then we will head out for a walk later.
We set off in a tuk tuk to go to Elephant Beach. It’s a really small beach, so not very populated, which was perfect. Although, I have to say… the strong cross current in the sea nearly took me out! I was fighting my way back, but was interrupted by Ella who was laughing at me from the beach. As I dragged my self up the sand, after finally being washed ashore by a huge wave, all I could hear was Ella laughing, and saying about my bobbling head!
I returned to my beach cloth with my heart pumping out of my chest! My eyes were burning and stinging from the salt and sun cream… and Ella giggling!!! Note to self: be more aware! Of the current!!!
I found a bit of shade on the beach,
and chatted with a girl about being an older person, travelling on my own. She now wants to chat with her Mum about e endless possibilities for an older person on er we! Well yes, it’s doable! I’ll take that as a compliment!
After about an hour of sun, sea and sand, we walked along to a Jamaican influenced cafe, The Silent Pup. We stopped there for a late lunch, I had cheese kotta, which is a local dish of vegetables, noodles and cheese. I enjoyed it, but it was very rich.
We headed back to Basecamp as Ella has jobs to do. I am fairly sure that I will be roped in too. But loving working alongside her! We sorted our beach gear, then Ella sorted her little jobs out. Ella is funny, she calls her tuk tuk guy for everything! He came back up to Basecamp to take us out on errands. First stop at the tailors to get some ties put on the curtains for the yoga shala, but as it is a holiday day due to it being a full moon, Poya, they were closed. So he ran us all over to find a
tailor. Finally, we found one in a little back street. Job sorted, then on to book a table for the retreat group. It’s good and live music at Mary, inside Karumba Bay.
6 people came for dinner tonight. It’s a really pleasant mix of people. The restaurants main meal is called a Poke Bowl - with a French grave on the e!. We’ve all built our own Poke Bowl. It was quite a difficult job for Ella, as she supported everyone through the ordering process!
We followed up with a stroll across to the amazing gelato shop…. It would be rude not to! Then a really nice end to the evening was all appreciating the full moon from the beach in front of the restaurant. A lovely end to a lovely evening.
I’m certainly back to feeling my normal self today! Thank goodness
