Wow! …. A marathon sleep! I’ve had about 10 hours, with a wake up to take on water!! Feeling good this morning! I woke up to Ella bringing me a coffee… loving it! The yogis were actually already done, and getting ready for breakfast!
Today it is pancakes and fruit, and as always breakfast is accompanied by a fruit smoothie and a healthy shot. Today’s shot was lemon and ginger.
I do enjoy the breakfast time as you meet new people everyday. The yoga is for the Basecamp people, but also for random drop ins. Some come from tha, and some come from yoga and breakfast. So with so many various people passing through, the conversations are random, varied and interesting!
Today the curtains arrived. So after breakfast Ella and I went up to the shala to take down the temporary sheets, and replace them with the curtains. Ooohhh… it’s so high, but doable! Well, we got 3 out 9 done. Ella chickened out as it was too windy. I got up to do it, but couldn’t reach!
Three people are leaving the retreat today, but 3 new ones arrived this afternoon.
Ella has got legal
papers to deal with in Matara today, so we’ll be setting off soon in a tuk tuk. It’s about 17km away, so that’ll be about 40 minutes on the road. It’s so warm today, the breeze as we are driving along is like being blown in the face with a hairdryer on hot!!!!
We had quite a wait for the papers being dealt with, but it was a job that needed doing, so we sat patiently, and waited. Then, the job was done!
We have a bit of free time whilst we’re here so we went to have a look at The Matara Fort. It was built in 1560 by the Portuguese and was substantially re-built by the Dutch in 1640, following the capture of Galle. The fort, which consists of a large stone rampart, occupies a raised mass of land which separates the Niwala Ganga (River) lagoon and the ocean.
To be honest, there is not a lot of it left standing, but was still worth having a look. It had a couple of nice temple areas. The second floor was encompassed by a little water way, about 18 inches wide, which was filled with huge
fish swimming around the building.
We finished our viewing, then continued our journey back. We stopped at the Dutch area called Kitchen Street for lunch. I had my first, proper cappuccino with my lunch, at last, but I abstained from cake! Although after setting off back to Weligama in the tuk tuk, we did stop for ice cream!!
The next stop was in a small town called Polhena. We planned on a quick, cool down swim, but the sea was really brown. This is because at this point the river meets the sea. We decided not to swim, but to continue our journey back.
The next stop was for Ella. There is a place that has an ice bath and a sauna. The practice is to alternate the two! Apparently, this practice has many health benefits. I get a coffee! She tries to do a daily ice dip, but struggles to fit it in! So today, we have time to stop!
Then back to Basecamp. We are going out for a group meal tonight. We are going into Weligama centre to a place called Hangtime. It was really busy, selling everything from sushi to burgers! I
opted for crispy chicken wrap with fries… not exactly keeping it healthy! I enjoyed what I had. In fact, all of the group seemed to enjoy their meal, and there was a wide variation of orders!
After our meal, we all went downstairs to music room. They are holding an open mic night, but sadly we have discovered that we don’t have any singers amongst us!
We all left at about 8:45 to head home, leaving Ella behind to party with her friends!
