I was up at about 8am this morning. I could hear the yoga moving around, looked at the time, then chose to turn over for another half an hour! I am enjoying the lazy mornings, but they aren’t going to last the whole holiday. I know that when I hit Australia, it will be a whole different ball game! Ha ha! So I’m enjoying whilst I can!
It was overnight oats and fruit, with all other bits on the end for breakfast today. To be honest, I’ve never eaten them before, but Ella gave us the option for going out for breakfast for a change. I could have gone with that option, but it’s nice for Ella to have a change from time to time.
We got a tuk tuk to Hangtime. We had smashed avocado with egg on Rosti, with tomato and onion, and extra toast, accompanied by an iced coffee. It went down a treat! We also did a bit of toiletry shopping for Ella. Sri Lanka does very little importation, so any items like that are really expensive! We also went to Fish Point for some fish for the dog and cat at Basecamp. The ladies
mix the fish with rice for the animal feed, but they say Ella spoils them too much!
We are going out today with a friend of Ella’s, Barbara. I met her briefly a few days ago. We are going up towards Ahangama to a hotel called Alaia. It’s a high end hotel with, yet another, beautiful beach front access, with bean bag beds, and all day service. It’s £25 for the day, but you spend that amount on drinks and food. It’s worth it because it is a very peaceful environment, with not so many people.
The day has consisted of, ‘shifting!’
Shiftng from the bed in the sun, to dipping in the sea, to the bed in the shade, then to the dipping pool, and also to the bar area! You don’t get much better than that for an easy day!
We decided to have lunch here. We may as well, we have paid up front, and it is also so beautiful! We had salad, and a snitzel sandwich, but shared it. It was perfect, just enough!
It is now 3:45pm, I simply don’t know where the time goes! These lazy days certainly takes some
beating!
We finally left Araia Hotel at 5:30pm by tuk tuk. We went 5 minutes in the direction of Weligama to Coconut Beach. It’s a perfect spot to sit back and watch the sun set, and it is actually the first one that we have really made an effort to go and view. We did see the ceremony for the full moon, and saw it by default! I thought as we’re at Coconut Beach, it is appropriate to have a fresh coconut to drink! I love how the pace of life is so slow…. For everyone!
The sunset was amazing! But sadly, at that point in time, I got news that a really close friend has passed away. I’m devastated! I did see her before I left, we spent a lovely hour together, and we said goodbye, and hugged…. But it doesn’t make it any easier.
I will always remember tonight’s sunset. In memory of Bridget xxxx
We went back to Basecamp. As Ella and I have already eaten, we had no need to go out tonight, which I felt suited me. But Ella talked me into just going for a walk, and seeing the group,
just to say goodbye to Saba, as she leaves early in the morning. I have really connected with her, so didn’t want to miss that opportunity, regardless of how I’m feeling. We also walked up to the Gelato shop and got ice cream again. We walked part of the way back on the beach.
It’s been such a good day, but then, the saddest too.

So sorry to hear about your friend :( difficult when you are so far away. At least you got to say your last goodbyes. On a lighter note your photos are amazing. Sounds like you are having a great time and spending it with Ella. xx
