school!
This is my desk! HELLO from South Korea!
My flight was fine, after an emotional send off from Claire, i had lots of movies to watch and a spare seat next to me!
Met up with John-Lee the guy who organised my job and headed straight for Wonderland school to meet the teachers and sit on on my first class! Megan the teacher im taking over from is great, really helpful and its good to watch her handle the different classes. The school is in a high rise building.. well 4 stories, but well orgenised and each classroom is decorated differently. I will be teaching Korean 5 yr olds which are actually English 4 yr olds (different way of counting age, come out at 1 yr!) and all ages up to 11! You would really be surprised at how much these kids know!! Its amazing!!
So anyway after school we went to a restaurant to eat.. KOREAN style. Now i knew there were certain rules when eating but i never knew how long a meal can last for! we had these massives bowls like fondue bowls with a liquid and veg in .. mostly mushrooms and spinich. Then after that you add raw beef till
fall in korea
first signs of fall even though its still 30degrees out here! its cooks (about 1 min) then eat all that then add noodles.. then eat all that then the waitress adds rice and boils it down to nothing then you eat the rice!
That took forevver and i was really tired, so then i was taken to my hotel room (Megan is still living in what will be my apartment) which is lovely!!! Massive TV and bathroom.. great! However i didnt have the best nights sleep, i went to bed at 1030pm and woke up wide awake at 1am, didnt get back to sleep till 5am and had to be up at 8am for school!
So School.. 1st lesson with the YOUNGEST kids.. nightmare!!! they are crazy kids.. but Megan handles them well.. i worry that they will walk all over me and wont learn a bloody thing!!
Oh and i have to eat lunch with the kids too... not just eat it but serve it up and help them out!!!
but the good thing is i then had from 1245 till 230 off to do what ever i wanted.. so i went back to Megans house and SLEPT!!! for the whole time!
Seriously.. these kids must think i have pink eye or something, i have the most bloodshot eyes i have even seen (in a mirror obviously!)
So after a very long day and some stark differences between classes, i came back to my hotel with a rumbling stomach (aparently 1 donut isnt enough to survive on!) grabbed an English sandwich and went home!
Its so nice to have a sit down and relax..
Friday is going to be manic, very long day at school then off out in the evening for Megans last night, then sat i have to unpack my crap and meet Marie (English girl who moved out here 2 wks ago!) where hopefully we will get on really well ad i will have a friend!!
Megan and Lyndsy are both great but are also both leaving Korea this week, Simon is lovely but i get teh feeling he has his own social life and i would feel like a burden asking him if i can join him.
Want to do some sight seeing on sunday... if im not too hungover from my 1st try of Sojo!!
Speak soon! Have a fun wkend!!
xx Oh pics to come!! they arent great but you should get an idea of where i work etc!

what was it like?
I see this blog is a couple years old which makes me think you would have a great idea of what its like now to teach in Korea. I am currently teaching at an international school there but my sister is looking to teach English at Wonderland starting in late August. Do you remember what it was like coming from Mok-dong to Itaewon. That is where I live and would like her to live close to me. Was it a fun neighborhood? How was it teaching at that school? Lots of preparation or after school hours to get ready? Did the people treat you nicely and pay you on time? Just curious :) Thanks Nancy
