15th Nov: We had stayed the night at Incheon, so that we were close to the ferry terminal. We had tried to stay at the same motel as we had when we went to Baeknyeong-do, but since we had arrived late, after 11 pm, it was full. But the lovely man pointed out another motel to us. We were up early, as our ferry left at nine am, luckily the motel was a tow minute walk to the ferry terminal. It wasn't as busy as it had been back in May, I noticed that the old information board had been removed and replaced with a brand new electronic one. No sign left of the Sewol now. We got our tickets from the desk, they were very efficient, as they had them printed out ready for us. ... read more

It's been awhile since I have written and updated this blog. I apologize. I have been pretty lazy recently and have been working on finalizing my English winter camp that I had to do for winter break. The kids officially finished school and classes the Friday before New Year's so ever since then I have been planning a winter camp and making final revisions. They basically gave me no instructions. All I knew was it was going to be 5 days for a couple hours a day and I can do whatever I want. Pretty specific. So the first day of Winter Camp finally arrived and I had no idea what was going on. The teacher that took the order for my supplies was nowhere to be seen, there was no heat in the English zone, ... read more

So I've had a couple of deskwarming days and am able to finally catch up with my blogs! I've been thinking of different posts to write about things I experience in day to day life in Korea and this is one of them. Lunch time in a Korean school. The teachers have their separate cafteria behind the school that we eat at. It's pretty small since we only have about 40 teachers altogether and we have a cook who makes meals from scratch everyday. She is an excellent cook and all the meals so far have been delicious. We file in to the lunch room and grab our water cup which is about 6-8oz so it is puny and then grab a spoon, two chopsticks, and a metal tray. There are 3 staples in a Korean ... read more

Bultanem Saram (pt. 2 of 2) Here's an update well after the event. This goes back to a Sunday in September, the second weekend after I got to Seocheon. I figured out those weird insect like things I ate with the Chinese women were immature silkworm (pupa or larve). Glad to have figured that out. Anyway, I met a ton of people at the beach on Sunday, and a couple folks I may meet in the future outside of Korea, should paths cross in a desert somewhere. Big props to Katlyn, Scottathan, and Crazy Matteh. You guys rock, and help make this strange land full of strange people (expats certainly not excepted) more cozy. Here's a few pics from the beach.... read more

Last weekend was pretty amazing. It was definitely the highlight of my time in Korea so far and for that reason I hope you will forgive me for delaying this blog entry until I could get hold of some photos and give you a better idea of where I’ve been. As you may recall from my last post, we have just had the Chuseok holiday here in Korea. Whilst Koreans celebrated it in traditional style, it appears to be customary for every Westerner within reach of the Incheon ferry port to descend on Deokjeokdo, an island about an hour off of the west coast. Catching the earliest ferry on Saturday was something of an ordeal. This was partly because we had misjudged the amount of time it would take to get tickets and partly because they ... read more
