I feel like I'm running out of stories! But oh well, your comments have encouraged me to keep writing. I guess I'll open with this. Today I got to work around 3. Now that I'm getting the hang of it, I feel comfortable showing up a little later. I still need the hour to prep, make copies, print, etc. Around 3 15ish another teacher came in and asked if any of us wanted to go down to the kimbap shop and get some food to bring back up and eat. I wasn't too hungry but I had been wanting to check out this shop where everything is apparently really cheap and pretty good, and not far from the school. And it was Friday so I was like, oh well, forget prepping. Ha ha So I went ... read more

The weekend came way too fast last week. This whole teaching thing really is pretty easy, or so I thought through two weeks... Friday night was the start of our fun-filled weekend as we ventured out to our favorite hangout. MJ's is where we spent our first weekend and just happens to be the most densely populated area of Americans in all of Korea (from my guestamation). Bethany and I, while walking in decided to start with the Wii (which, if you remember, is one of three fun things you can do at MJ's besides pool and darts). We ventured over and Bethany made a quick look through the Wii library of games and then made a decision (little did she know that decision would keep her from playing the Wii for the next 3 ... read more

On Sunday we went to the big church we went to for Easter to play volleyball. We had about 14 of us playing so we did 6 on 6 with one person rotating out. It was really fun! A few people in our group had been dying to play ever since they got here so it was nice that the church had arranged it. A real gym, court, net, and ball! This seems to be a very common trend here in south korea: things not going as planned due to strange, illogical interruptions. So the English service at the church had rented out the gym for 2 hours. As in...signed up on a sheet and reserved it. We play for about an hour and then 12 Koreans in suits show up and tell us we need ... read more

Here's my address: (It isn't my physical address so don't freak out-but it will get to me) 700, Daesang Master B/D 7th floor Gaesin-dong, Heungdeok-gu Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do 361-805 SOUTH KOREA LOVE to hear from anyone and everyone :) Blog comments are free so keep em coming! Craziest address I've had thus far, and I've had 11 in the past 5 years. (This is why I get EXTREMELY frustrated when I call a bank or loan company and they ask me to verify my address....you FREAKING tell me. Can I have a hint? Which state?) 11 is an accurate number. I just took a minute to verify and add each one. I've attached some more pictures of my classes. Yes, I realize they are quite awkward. The kids HATE them. They seriously beg and plead for me ... read more

I apologize for the big gap between blogs. But I am happy to report that this blog is coming from my computer in my room with my own wireless internet. That was great to type. I have nothing but positive things to update everyone on. I almost have 2 weeks of teaching under my belt and just got back from my most challenging class and this week they were a lot easier to manage (maybe that had something to do with the "mean teacher seating chart"). I am feeling more confident in the classroom and have already implemented some of my own personal touches to the room and class material. The week began with an awesome weekend in what I call "beer-pong-dong". This particular pronunciation has nothing to do with beer pong being played at the ... read more

12. Not sure how to put this besides just saying that most male's walking around have children strapped to them in some way. They carry the kids or have some kind of apparatus tied around them holding the kid in place. It is something that you see enough to notice that it would not be the norm for America. It is very heartwarming to see in a culture that seems to have such a harsh male role. 13. All of us teachers have heated floors. Of course there is barely enough floor space to walk but the small piece of floor that you do walk on, its very warm. 14. Home+ is a three story grocery store that has everything you could ever imagine. It is just bigger because there are simply more people that shop ... read more

Oh, to have internet. After 2 weeks, we finally have internet! It feels so good :) So it's a little after midnight and I'm eating a pickle and jalepeno tuna sandwich. I realize how gross that sounds but I can't quite explain how good this is! YUM! I'm just starting to adjust to this teaching schedule. Being up until 2 or 3 in the morning and not heading to work until about 3pm. It's kinda weird. I've been teaching for almost 2 weeks. It really is going by pretty quickly. After Wednesday, it's a breeze. Most of the students are pretty great. However, some of them are terrible. They combine the fact that they absolutely hate being there with their extremely rude bluntness...and they drive me crazy. It is very common to hear things like "bad ... read more

Wow, as of today we have been in Cheongju for 1 week. Time flies when you’re having fun I guess! After a great weekend we went into Monday feeling pretty good but also a little anxious for the teaching. One part of that was the fact that I was going to be teaching 9 different classes, only ONE of wish I had trained for. If someone told me that a few weeks ago I would have been freaking out but it’s actually not that bad and I’m getting the hang of it. Classes are at 4pm and 7pm every M-F. So I teach 2 classes a day 5 days a week, which equals 10 classes. One of them is the one I trained for in Seoul. And one of them I teach twice, so I ... read more

I left you last time after arriving in “They City of Lights” - Cheongju, South Korea the 14th largest city in all of Korea. Home. After a week in Cheongju we are yet to have a permanent home. But what we do have, are jobs. It is Thursday night and I have had 4 full days of work. Before going any further I will tell you this (but knowing perfectly well that I am only one week in): I love my job. It is a pretty cool idea since I feel that not many people can say that- at any point in their lives, or jobs. But here I am 4 days in and I don’t want to do anything besides teach English in Cheongju, South Korea. So, here is the run down: I work ... read more
