George is still having problems walking long distances with his sciatica, so we decided we would do the Skypark at Marina Bay Sands. This was something that we had wanted to do in our last visit, but we ran out of time.
We took the metro from our hotel and it stopped directly under the hotel. It was then just a short walk to the lift for the Skypark.
The Skypark at Marina Bay Sands is an open air observation deck on level 57 of the hotel. It gives spectacular views of most of Singapore. With the current heat and humidity it is impossible to stay up there for too long as there are no shaded areas. It was great to have done it at last though. We think about 35 - 38 degrees.
After that we headed to the Food court. We did make it here last time, so knew roughly where in the vast hotel it was.
We were walking around looking at all of the hawker type stalls when an elderly gentleman slipped and fell. When we tried to lift him up, we noticed that he had lost an awful lot of blood. He
had banged his head badly on a table as he fell. Luckily we had been carrying around paper towels and wet wipes and were able to offer the gentleman some assistance. The gentleman was bleeding very very badly, but it took us about 10 minutes to convince any of the onlookers to call him an ambulance. After about 15 minutes a security man arrived with a small first aid box. He took a look at the gentleman, took a couple of bits out of the box and laid them on a nearby table, then re thought about it and put them back in the box. It was fairly obvious he did not have a clue what to do. Everybody was just taking pictures on their phones. We had him sat up on the floor to try and stem the flow of blood. After about 20 minutes, the ambulance men arrived and the man that had fallen was still bleeding badly. It was great to be able to pass his treatment to someone else. We are not sure what would of happened had we not have been there, as no one else seemed to know what to do. We hope the
gentleman is ok. 100% sure we saved his life using compression for the wound.
After that, we did not feel much like eating, but did stop for a quick drink before making our way back towards the hotel.
On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at the nearby Chinese hawker centre. We have walked past this many times and this is the first time we have ventured in. None of the food on offer looks very familiar to us, so it was difficult to know what to have. Then we found a stall offering a chicken and rice set meal. Was only Singapore $2.50 (about £1.25). When it arrived it was a portion of chicken, a portion of rice, some chicken broth, some salad and some really very hot sauce. It was really tasty and we managed to eat it all except the sauce which was too hot for us. They even offered us a refill of the soup as they saw that we had eaten it all. Enough for both of us for lunch and very tasty too. Engaging with the locals and their cuisine.
George is feeling very under the weather this evening,
so we went to a local Indian restaurant. The food was very tasty, although a little more expensive than the hawker centres.
