This is a blog about my trip to Bohol last November 2018 and I just want to share this in here to let others know that there's a magical place in Philippines as well that you can visit for a very cheap price.
Traveling to the Central Visayas region of the Philippines would be perfect for your summer vacation. Aside from the ever-famous travel spots in Cebu City, you could also try visiting some of the world class travel destinations and attractions in Bohol.
Quick tip, Bohol is known for its Chocolate Hills and the Tarsiers, but that’s not all, actually, there’s a lot more things to do in Bohol aside from those mainstream attractions. You could also try these as well in Bohol; dolphin watching, kite surfing, paddle boarding, island hopping, and visiting historical sites too!
Here’s a list of 10 things to do in Bohol, this is just my own opinion though.
10. Visit Bohol Habitat Conservation Center
Spending 30 minutes here would be enough for you to have fun! A guide will lead you to the butterflies, centipedes, birds, caterpillars, spiders and flowers. You could have them crawl on
your hand while taking pictures with them. You could then visit a restaurant or ice cream shop nearby.
I love the butterflies that are inside this habitat conversation center since there are lots of variation of butterflies and the color of their wings are so lovely and very gorgeous. I didn't go near the caterpillars, centipedes etc. since I am not really a fan of crawlers, yikes. And the Bohol Habitat Conservation Center is located in Bilar, Bohol so if you are in the area, you better have more time to spend since there's one attraction as well that you should really try to visit.
9. Conquer your fear of heights at the Bamboo Hanging Bridge
Perfect for those who loves conquering their fear of heights and adventures. The bridge is made up of bamboos that was weaved together and has 40 meters long. Don’t worry about falling since the bridge is pretty sturdy since it was reconstructed to have cables for additional support. After you have crossed the bridge, there’s a souvenir shops on the other side which you can buy bags, shirts, key chains, magnets and more. I bought lots of souvenirs from different
stalls since I have friends and families who are expecting a '
pasalubong' back at home.
As what I have said before with the accommodation with my Bangkok, Thailand trip, I choose to go to other accommodations after staying like a day or two so I can explore more and so I can also help other business properties to earn some income and same with the souvenir stalls, I didn't buy all the souvenir in just one stall.
8. Visit the historic Blood Compact Monument
Unlike the Bamboo Hanging Bridge, this one is less challenging but perfect for those who likes to know more about the history of Bohol. The Blood Compact Shrine or commonly known as “Sandugo” commemorates the historical even that happened in 1565. This is a statue that reenact the toast of friendship between Rajah Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.
This site is a historical one especially for the Filipinos since this is where a friendship between a local datu in the area became friends with a Spanish governor and navigator way back 15th century.
7. Have fun at the Hinagdanan Cave
The interior of the cave is magical!
It has stalactites and stalagmites forming beautiful rock formations in the ceiling. There are a few holes in the ceiling that makes a spotlight-like light which is perfect for your ‘photoshoot’ for your Instagram post. We spent a lot of time here taking some lovely and awesome photos. This place is indeed a great place for swimming and for relaxing.
To get to the Hinagdanan Cave, you either take a tricycle or a jeepney going to Dauis. It’s only going to be a 15-minute ride if you’re from Tagbilaran. Entrance fee is ₱50.00 and if you want to go swimming, you have to pay an additional ₱75.00.
6. Relax at Panglao Island
Spend a day on this beautiful white sand beach by swimming, playing in the water, getting a relaxing massage, or sipping some cocktails at a beachfront bar. You could also take a boat and take you to the perfect spot for snorkeling and scuba diving.
You don’t need a boat to get there, you can easily take the small bride that connects Bohol to Panglao if you are planning on a day tour. But if you want to stay there for a night,
there are plenty of accommodations for you to spend the night.
5. Baclayon Church
If you are more of a historic buff traveler, this one is perfect for your itinerary. The Baclayon Church is the oldest Christian settlement in Bohol. It was founded in 1596 and still standing, this Roman Catholic Church has been officially declared as ‘National Cultural Treasure’ that attracts thousands of tourists year-round. I had a great and peaceful time with this century old church. When I went inside the premises, I was in loved with the structure and the interior of the church. It looks very sturdy and gorgeous at the same time.
4. River Cruising at the Loboc River
Loboc River Cruise is the perfect place for you to take your lunch before you continue exploring Bohol. Most of their menu are Filipino dishes and there will be a band playing Filipino hits to serenade you on your meal. Had a really great time listening to the lovely musics sang by the live band on board the river cruise. I also had a wonderful and amazing time eating lunch on the second day of my Bohol trip.
Lunch

₱450.00 for adults and ₱350.00 for children below 12 years old.
While children's that are below 3 years old are free of charge.

Night cruises package costs ₱450.00 to ₱800.00 – depending on the package.
Full package includes a buffet dinner, river cruising, and a band concert by the Loboc Youth Ambassador.
3. Take a photo at the Man-made forest in Bilar
Visit the man-made forest in Bilar and have an Instagram-worth photos. This won’t take much of your time, unless you want to take a lot of pictures of you and the trees. This 2 km wide of mahogany trees bordering Loboc and Bilar is free of charge.
The man-made forest is very astonishing and mesmerizing. The place reeks of magical aura and hey this is what I was talking about that thing I told you that this is the place you should visit as well when you are in Bilar.
2. Bohol Tarsiers
There are a lot of tarsier sanctuaries in Bohol but the official tarsier sanctuary in Bohol is the Philippine Tarsier and Wildlife Sanctuary which
is located in Corella, Bohol.
To get there, you have to take the bus going to Corella or rent a motorbike from Tagbilaran City. The entrance fee is ₱50.00 and that includes a tour guide. And please, always follow the rules and regulations that was imposed on the sanctuary to help protect and conserve the tarsiers.
And of course, Bohol would never be known internationally without this attraction. This is basically the main reason why Bohol made its way all the way to the international travelers world.
1. The Chocolate hills
Your day won’t be perfect if you haven’t visited this world class destination in Bohol. Chocolate Hills is the most famous tourist destination in Bohol. Every tourist visiting Bohol will surely have this on their itinerary. With over 1,300 of these hills and over 50 square kilometers of area, it is a true sight to behold. The Chocolate Hills is the Philippines’ third National Geological Monument and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
It is located in Chocolate Hills Complex, Carmen, Bohol and has an entrance fee of ₱50.00.
And there you have it folks. These are some
of the best things you could do in Bohol, Philippines and actually, there’s a lot more as well that aren’t listed here. I just simply put up a top 10 out of the hundreds of lovely places and attractions to visit Bohol. And that's up to you now if you want to explore more about Bohol, then you better do some research and dig much more deeper to look for more places.
