We had the best week, weather-wise, sailing from Malaysia across the Indian Ocean to the Seychelles. There is a poem about life in the tropics and it captures the feeling of cruising in this part of the world. The gist of the poem is that the moon seems closer, the sunsets are brighter, the clouds are fluffier, the ocean is bluer and love is stronger--life in the tropics is more like living! We agree. Captain Dag said it was the most beautiful morning he had ever experienced and that’s saying something from someone who has been at sea most of his life. To see the clouds mirrored on the smooth ocean is like looking at a beautiful, vibrant water color painting. The day before our arrival in the Maldives there was a “Sundowner” party on the ... read more

Well, we’ve enjoyed 3 wonderful days at sea. Last night we were treated with an impromptu sundowner out on the bow. Drinks were served, our resident guitarist Jerry Vasi played, and it was an outstanding sunset. We anchored at Male this morning at 8:00am. The Maldives is one of a thousand tiny islands spread over 26 atolls straddling the equator in the heart of the Indian Ocean and offers some of the world’s most exotic island getaways with its balmy climate and stunning beaches. It is considered one of the world’s best dive destinations. Over 99% of the total area of the country is ocean, and this marine environment is one of the healthiest anywhere in the world, with an incredible variety of sea life. With an average ground level of only 4-5 feet, it is ... read more

OK, so once I publish this I will finally be caught up on the travel blog. Sweet! As many of you know, Vaughan and I went to the Maldives for our honeymoon in November. We arrived in Male after transferring through Singapore, and were feeling quite tired. Male is the city on the main island in the Maldives, where all the locals live. The airport is on another island, about 15 minutes boat ride away from the main island, so we got sorted out on the local dhoni boats over to Male, and off we went - it was pretty dark, but arriving on the main island was very exciting. We got a taxi to our hotel, and zoomed down narrow cobbled alleyways, competing with scooters, bikes and pedestrians. We arrived safely and crashed out in ... read more

I arrived to Baros Maldives resort in the morning via speedboat. Luxury 5 star I tell you. They gave me cold wet towels and a drink during my 20 mins ride to the resort. When I finally arrived, management personally came out to greet me, offered me this delicious cold ginger tea and escorted me to my water villa. When I finally reached my water villa, my luggage was already there and my room attendant explained to me everything in the room. I had a hard time paying attention to what he was saying as I had my eyes towards the balcony overlooking the ocean. When he finally left (which seems like an eternity) I changed into my swimsuit and ran outside, oh man WHAT A VIEW! I have to say many people wondered why ... read more

By the way, si vous pouvez aller voir l’aeroport de Male sur Google je ... read more

August 2008 - We had already booked our holiday so off we pop to the Maldives for two weeks of the most relaxing holiday you can ever imagine, I enjoy it far more than Fiona who is suffering terribly from morning sickness and obviously can’t drink or enjoy any of the water sports I’m partaking in. Worst of all we’d booked a posh Jacuzzi villa and Fiona is told not to use it because she’s pregnant, I think this hurts her more than the zero alcohol intake…. She does enjoy some special pregnancy massages and loves the pain I’m in after getting a deep tissue massage. Seriously, I hurt my back water skiing and though I’d go for a massage, now you may remember from Laos and Thailand that massages aren’t really my bag but I ... read more
