Day 13 Oh dear!!!!!
Today we woke up to just awful weather, raining and windy and we have a two and a half hour ferry ride to Langkawi. Up at about 5.30 to check out and have breakfast in time for our 7am minibus ride to the ferry terminal.
On arrival at the ferry terminal it was still pouring rain and it cost us and exhorbitant RM30 for a porter to cart our bags about 25m. Next time - forearmed pre-warned! Always get a quote first.
After checking in at this temporary crappy terminal we boarded the ferry for the trip to Kuah on Langkawi. Well, the first thing the crew did was to hand our sea sick bags to all passengers. Doesn’t look good and it wasn’t too bad for the first 15 minutes or so in the confines of the strait between Penang and the mainland however that changed once we hit open water.
Gina started to feel a bit queasy and went up onto the open deck to get some fresh air after about half and hour and us other 3 stayed below decks. Poor David had an awful time of the trip. He
was sick for about 2 hours of the trip and looked truly ill and ready to die. The trip was quite choppy with about a half metre swell so there was a fair bit of sideways movement on the boat. There were some locals up on deck suggested looking at the horizon and that helped to prevent Gina becoming sick as well. The problem with being below decks, is that the windows are only about half a metre above the waterline so the horizon can’t be seen most of the time.
It was a rough crossing for a lot of the passengers and I think there a lot of relieved people once we arrived at Kuah. Having learnt the lesson in Penang, we got a quote from the porter to move our bags and only paid RM15 for them to be moved about 10 times the distance on Langkawi.
From the ferry we got a taxi to Holiday Villa at Pantai Tengah and were pleased to find that my bombarding them with emails had worked. We had requested that Stu and Abby and the girls, who were also arriving today from Satun in Thailand, had an interconnecting room
and we found out they had obliged. Also we had a block of four rooms all together on the ground floor leading out to the garden and pool area. Stu and Abby and Danika and Zavannah arrived at about 7 pm and we had a happy reunion.
Gina and I then took everyone over to Cactus Restaurant and introduced them to the owner Mr Ba where we had a pleasant evening catching with each other about the experiences of the travels. The end of another awesome day was had by all. The worst part. It’s the hump day, so it’s all downhill from here.
