Tea Plantations..Tea Plantations..Tea Plantations..

..on our way to Boh...!
We were feeling a little stiff from yesterday's walk so decided to go to one of the Boh tea plantations. Boh was set up by a British guy (and is still owned by his family) and is the number one tea in Malaysia!

We got the bus to the butterfly farm (which we did not go into) and then had to walk 2 kms to the plantation factory. The sheer size of the plantation was impressive as we walked to the factory - all on hills so we were wondering if they still hired people to pluck the leaves.

Once we got there, we had a cuppa tea in the cafe (how can we not!) - we tried cinnamon tea which was quite nice actually! We then had a tour of the factory - there are 5 stages to making tea - one is obviously plucking the leaves (they do now have machinery which can help out the workers on hills). They then put the leaves through a crushing machine - this factory had a machine that had been used since the 1930's - says it all about British machinery! Thirdly they leave the crushed tea out to

The same slogan is used for adverts than in the 70's...got character methinks!
oxidise....which is why is tea is brown not green. Fourthly they toss the tea leaves into hot air of around 100 degrees. Finally the tea leaves are filtered out so any twigs etc are not included. It was quite interesting - short and sweet.

The evening was spent again watching TV and playing Scrabble!
