So I am finally updating my travel blog!! ok so strating from the very beginning, we arrived in Hong Kong airport at around 5pm on wednesday 9th July and then we went straight onto the ferry to macau rather than going through customs which was rather nice!after a very rocky 45mins on the boat we arrived in the Las Vagas of China!!and man was it bright!!we then got our luggage donned our backpacks for the first time and set out to find our hostel (it was now about 9pm n very dark!!) so we thought for ease we would jus grab a taxi and pay the price, here we came across our fist barrier...no one spoke english!!!!so we got out of that taxi and tried another one, thankfully this man was wise and decided to ring ... read more

A short ferry ride from Hong Kong is the town of Macau. Along with Hong Kong, Macau is the other Special Administrative Region within China and with that status comes all the other goodies. You must go through customs to enter Macau, it has its own currency, its own international country dialing code, and its own government. Macau was a Portuguese colony for 400 years before being handed back to China in 1999. It was used as a base for Jesuit missionaries and it was here that the first bible was translated into a Chinese language. Macau consists of a large peninsula that is connected via a very long bridge to two islands, which appeared to almost be merged into one big island. The city is really known for 2 things. In Hong Kong we for once had accommodation booked already - to satisfy tighter visa requirements brought on by the proximity of the Beijing Olympics. Cleverly I had written down directions but not the actual address, which was most definitely not sufficient! Having eventually found internet terminals (in the library) to attain the address, we resumed our search but had little more luck. It was, in all, a stressful couple of hours before we finally located our tiny Inn high in a dilapidated building, overlooking the Causeway Bay shopping district. Even then, the Inn turned out to be full and they moved us to an alternative nearby. This morning we woke up got ready then headed down to the hotel restaurant for some breakfast. It was a huge buffet with all sorts of Asian foods, most of which Hannah and I wouldn't eat. We found some cereal and bread, ate breakfast then headed to reception to take the free shuttle bus to the Ferry Terminal on Macau Peninsula. We waited for a while but eventually the bus came and we were taken across to Central Macau. It was quite easy to get around in Macau because most of the casinos offered free bus shuttle to and from their casino to the Ferry Terminal.
