Hello all!
It’s been a while since I wrote, but that’s because I haven’t had too much eventful going on! Two weekends ago we had our big group picture at Kamakura. We went to Kamakura, which is where the “Big Buddha” is at. All of the Camp people who are in Japan met there and we took a picture in front of it and had a poster that some people made. We had a couple hours to do whatever we wanted so we walked around some shops and ate at a Hawaiian café! It was actually pretty good, I had French toast with bananas and chocolate. We were right by the beach and there were a ton of Hawaiian restaurants and shops. We met up with all the Camp people a little later and did beach games. It wasn’t a very nice beach day, so I didn’t get in the water but the activities we did were fun. We got into teams and did different race and relay activities and also a sandcastle contest. It was more fun than I thought it was gonna be and I won some sparklers! Sunday a friend and I went kayaking in the bay
which was tiring. We had the kayak for 2 hours and the first hour was good but then the waves started picking up and making it harder to paddle. We got back in but my arms were pretty tired by the end. There’s a little island off shore called Monkey Island that we went over to, we weren’t allowed to get off the kayaks but we paddled along the shore. When we got back we walked around Yokosuka a bit and went to a park nearby. The park had an arch that we had been searching for that’s along the shore. There were also a couple of fountains and a Japanese ship you could tour, but we didn’t go on that because it cost money.
This past weekend was the fourth, so we had the 3
rd off! We still had to do stuff though. There was supposed to be a festival with food, games, and music but unfortunately it’s been raining here for over a week straight. They had to move the festival into the movie theater so there wasn’t any room for games. They still had the music performances and the food, so we just help set up
all the decorations and stuff and then did crowd control during the event. On Saturday a group of us went to Mt Nokogiri and hiked a bit. It wasn’t really hiking, but it was still a workout since there are over 2,000 steps and I think we climbed every single one of them. I looked at my phone when the day was over and it said we took 26,166 steps, walked 12.18 miles, and climbed 74 floors. Nokogiri was really amazing though! We had to take a cable car up the mountain where there was a beautiful view of the ocean. Supposedly you can see Mt Fuji from it, but it was overcast and foggy so we couldn’t see it. There were two diabustus, or buddhas, including the biggest one in Japan. It is 28 meters high and was giant! When we got back to Yokosuka we went out to curry, Japanese not Indian, which was the first time I had it. It was pretty good, but not my favorite. It was very strong on the spices, I’m not sure if that’s how all their curry is or just that restaurant so I’ll have to try another place. On Sunday
we went to the malls in Yokosuka. There are three that are all pretty close to base so we looked through all the shops and went out to eat. Got ramen again, it was my 4
th time getting it: )
Like I said it’s been raining constantly for a little over a week, so that’s making the kids at the center restless. We couldn’t go to the pool last week cause it was raining and usually we go to the playground once a day, but can’t do that either. I’m hoping the rain stops soon so we can get them out of the center, but someone told me it’s supposed to keep raining until Saturday at least. The kids are as crazy as ever, but a lot of fun! The other Camp people are great so we make it through together😉 It’s tough work, but like I said it’s fun. Next weekend a group of us are going to go ziplining! We were going to this weekend but decided against it since it was raining. Sunday I think we’re going to go to Zushi which is a beach town, so hopefully the weather is okay and we
have a good time! Also, I’m climbing Mt Fuji on the 18
th so think of me and hopefully I’ll be able to make it up! I need to research some tips to help me make it to the topJ Better get going! I have some preparation work to do for the center. I’ll try to post again after this weekend! Bye!
