It was a good job that we went to Huis ten Bosch on the Thursday , even though we had some rain, on the Friday it was torrential.
We are based in Sasebo for a couple of nights and this is the first place that we have been to with no banners or sightings of rugby fans. They do have a large US port. So more English signage and we rather enjoyed a proper Turkish kebab by a real Turk for our dinner. We were very lucky in that we decided to go on a boat trip, for a cruise around the islands. Famous for being the most densely concentrated clustering of islands in Japan (208 if your asking) luckily it held off raining until we had finished the cruise. It was rather beautiful and atmospheric.
So the rest of the day was spent in our hotel, catching up on sleep, emails...this blog...hense so many photos last time!
Our last move is to Hakata for 3 nights for the weekend of the quarters. We didn't have tickets for any of the matches but thought that we'd be sure to find somewhere to watch them. Lots more fan shirts to be seen around
here. But slightly disappointing arrival at the station to find nobody greeting us as special guests !
Had a mooch around the town and found some of the shrines were preparing for an Illumination show that evening, but before that we had to find a bar to watch the match .
We walked in to an Irish pub and who's sitting by the bar but Alison (David's cousin) and her Daughter in law. Their men had gone to the match and they had decided to stay in town. And they had two spare seats.Good atmosphere .
We went to have a look at the illuminations at the shrines after the match and thought we'd find somewhere else to watch the Irish game.
We were walking past a restaurant that was empty but they had a sign outside saying that the match was going to be on. When we looked in it was baseball!...but they waved us in and turned the station over..we had the place to ourselves but had to listen in Japanese and the music system was still on ...so not much atmosphere and we didn't bother watching the second half.
Sunday
Did a bit of sight
seeing in the morning... probably another shrine..
Went to look at the castle ruins and walking down the road I'm thinking...blimey I've seen too much rugby as I'm hearing it everywhere even Eddy Butler..and then we see a sign saying that they were showing the matches on a large screen. So my head injury was not causing me hallucinations.
So we settled our selves down on the grass,
In the middle of mostly Japanese with a few Neutrals.
Well it was such a nail biting game and lucky for us France decided that Wales should win. But the response from the Japanese around us was amazing, high 5s hand shakes all round. A super memory and probably better than being there, this time.
We thought we had a bar ,earmarked for the Japan SAfrica game, because surely it would be on Everywhere!...well the bar was shut! So we were walking down a hopefully ,likely street and some young guys were out side, when they saw us they were trying to get us to go in, So I said that we wanted to watch rugby...once again they rushed in and turned the TV over from baseball, one again we nearly had
the place to ourselves. A guy was in the corner watching another TV but he turned it over later and a couple of others came in later and were all interested in watching it. Such a shame that Japan got knocked out.
We've really enjoyed our trip to Japan . Getting a bit fed up of City life and it's getting harder to remember which room number we have. But looking forward to the next stage, Korea!
