Had an early start and got a slightly rocky boat over to Lombok. It was quite quick and when I got to the other end I got a shuttle bus to Sengiggi. Once there I waited in the cafe for a couple of hours for Katy to arrive (my friend from my project in Fiji). We spent the afternoon planning our time in Lombok and Bali and booking lots of stuff - not much fun but very productive! Then we went out for dinner - I had been craving pasta so ordered Bolognese but it was super spicy- I should of guessed being in Indonesia!
The next morning we went to Sengiggi beach just to take a look before getting out bus to Kuta Lombok. We checked into our hostel- the woman wasn't exactly welcoming! Then we walked down to Kuta beach and sunbathed for a bit. It was a pretty beach but we got a bit hassle by dogs and children selling things so we went back and showered- in the worse shower I've ever used! - then went to the beach for a beer and to see the sunset. Then we had dinner which was nice.
The next morning
we had breakfast- the lady on the desk isn't a morning person either it seems! Then we hired some bikes and rode 5k to Tanjang Aan Beach. The ride was fun although there were some killer hills in the heat! The beach was beautiful though and there was only a handful of other people there- Lombok isn't as well known as Bali! We sunbathed, swam and read our books most of the day before riding back- a quicker less hilly route thankfully! We got a drink and chilled in the hostel. We went out for dinner and then to a bar for a bit.
The next morning we got a cab (after lots of bartering) to Malwan Beach, it was also very pretty! The waves were ridiculous and I spent half the time watching people get knocked over by them which was hilarious. Katy went in and spent about 10 minutes trying to get back out it was so funny! After we went to Ashtari Restaurant- it's famous there for it's views. Unfortunately when we got there it had clouded over a bit but was still impressive! We sat there for a while getting different snacks- then it started raining
so we waited a while. Once it stopped we walked back to our hostel but got caught in the rain again! We were soaked through, but it's so hot it didn't matter! When we were ready we went to the 'best restaurant in town' just to see if that was true. I had an Indonesian lemon chicken dish and Katy had a sort of soup- it was good and really cheap!
Today we had an early start to get our bus back to the port for our boat back to Bali. Our boat was meant to leave at 10 but at 1 we were still waiting... Standard Indonesian timing and no explanation just that it was late - which we already knew! It was ok though we just read our books. They boat back was fine and we got a shuttle to Ubud. He dropped us off - and we walked to find our hostel for aaaages! The dorm was nice though so we showered and went out for food because we were starving after our journey! Then we went for ice cream in a cute little place which was amazing! Then we went window shopping in Ubud - it
has loads of cool boutique type shops and markets.
The next day we went for breakfast I had a really nice muesli with yoghurt and fruit. We went to the monkey forest as Katy hadn't been- one of the monkeys stole my water bottle haha then we walked to the 'ridgeway walk' after a brief shelter from the rain! It's a short walk to some rice fields which were cool. In the evening we went out with a girl we had met in the hostel to this local restaurant she knew about- I had gado gado which was chicken and veg with a peanut sauce- it was nice! We had to get a super early night as our next day was a super early start...
At 1.45AM!!! It was like we had just gone to bed so I was a bit of a zombie when I woke. We got ready and got driven to a stop for breakfast at about 3am! We had banana pancakes. Then another short drive to the bottom of the volcano! We had two Aussie women in our group and our tour guide 'Diana' he was hilarious and we nicknamed him princess! The walk was quite
steep with some mild rock climbing but wasn't too tiring physically! It was sloppy in places but we were careful and took our time! We took water breaks and used torches to see! When we got to the top- after about two hours sunrise was literally just starting! It was incredible to watch and the views were amazing!!! Definitely worth the early start! It was really cold at the top (1717m). After we watched the sunrise we walked down to the volcanos smoking crater and to a cave where they have a place of worship. Then we started our descent- it was super slippery with lots of loose gravel but you just had to kind of go with it and pretend you were skiing down it haha back at the hostel we showered- the guy on the desk was lovely! Then we got some lunch and our shuttle to Kuta, Bali. The shuttle dropped us off on a roundabout- useful! - and we walked to our hostel. The room had the 'pod' layout which is cool. I had a two hour nap before we went to a place called jokers for dinner. It was so much fun!! They were having
an anniversary party with a band and games. They also have us free vodka and cake- can't go wrong with that! Was a good night but we went to bed early as we were exhausted!!
