We checked out this morning and then got the boat to Gili Trawangan. It was much busier than Gili Air and is more touristy. We found our hostel which was nice and got given a double room for the price of a single! We went for a swim in the sea and a sunbathe. There was a hilarious Indonesian guy dancing and singing Rihanna / lady gaga on the beach which entertained us for a while. Then we got a smoothie before looking round the shops. Then in the afternoon we went jewellery making at 'Yin'. It was so much fun- it was 3 hours long and you could make however much you liked, then they weighed it and charged accordingly. I made 4 rings and a charm! My favourite one I made was a ring with the word travel printed inside. After we went and got food, I got some really nice quesadillas and then we went back and planned to go out but fell asleep on the bed haha we woke up at half ten but we weren't ready so we stayed in.
The next day we decided to walk round the island, after we had left the main
busy strip bit the island is actually really pretty and much more scenic. We stopped at a cafe and had a swim in the sea for a bit and sunbathed before going to have lunch in a really cute hut overlooking the sea. After good we carried on walking round the island, stopping at another really beautiful cafe called cafe vintage which had hammocks and swings to sit on. When we got back we got ready to go out and went for dinner in a posh restaurant we had gone past on our walk. Then we went to a bar but didn't really like it but came across a reggae bar called sama sama which had a band who were really good, it was a fun night!
The next morning we checked out and I moved into a dorm room in the same hostel. We took Katie to the boat dock and she went back to Bali 😞 after she left the weather wasn't great but I found a really nice cafe called Kayu which had loads of healthy food so I got a drink and chilled for a bit before looking round some shops when the weather had cleared.
I went back there in the evening for dinner before going to the open air cinema at one of the hotels. I watched a film called 'the place beyond the pines' it wasn't very good haha
The next morning I changed some money- the exchange rate was so much better here than what I got in aus! Then I sunbathed and read my book on the beach. After an hour or so it started to POUR down, I sat in a restaurant and waited for it to clear before heading to Kayu again- not many cafés /restaurants are fully indoors so it's a good place to go when it's raining! I ate there and chilled in there - it rained again so I was on there a while. It rained all day so I had to go back to my hostel in the rain. It's hard because everything there is to do here involves being outside!
The next morning I got the boat over to Gili Meno- the quietest of the islands. The journey was a little traumatic as a storm started when we were half way and the boat- which is small and has open sides was thrown all
over the place but hank fully we got there in one piece! I got a 'taxi' - a horse and cart - to my cottage and was stuck inside pretty much all day as the storm was ridiculous! I ended up reading a whole book! It stopped raining about 8pm so I went for dinner before getting an early night!
I woke up early the next day because I wanted to see if the weather was good- it was! I walked round the island and room a few pics before going to see a turtle conservation place which was nice. I sunbathed for a bit and then got lunch on the beach. I ended up chatting to some local guy who makes jewellery about life in the gilis! In the evening I just chilled.
Woke up and it was raining again but thankfully it stopped before my dive! It was just me and a South African couple who were lovely. I was buddies with an Indonesian guy. We went to a dive spot called turtle heaven- which it was! As soon as we got in I saw about 6 turtles, one of which was huge!!! They were incredible and so
relaxed, they actually came near to is which was cool! Then we swam along this coral wall- it was different to the other dives I've done! The Indonesian guys kept pointing at 'coral' -then all of a sudden it would move- the camouflage that some of the fish have was insane! We saw so many cools things like scorpion fish and a massive octopus! It was amazing! After the dive I went to get some lunch and ended up chatting to some local guys and a German guy- mainly about football as they are obsessed with it! I was here for ages chatting. Then I went back, got changed and ate before going back to meet the guys from lunch for a bonfire on the beach while they played some songs, it was a nice evening!
