With the diving course finished and the surf breaks too shallow for Matty and not much else to do we pushed onto our next destination Kuta Lombok which is extremely different to its sister Kuta Bali, its a dead quite place in the South of Lombok extremely dry and if you don't surf not much to do as Nibbler found out. Getting there was an absolute mission but also fun we first had to boat from Nusa Lembongan to Bali this boat pulled in the engine and upped sail as soon as we were out of the breaking waves because petrol is too expensive quite an experience. This is where we met another cool couple from New Zealand and Australia Kylie and Bryant. We then had to get a Minivan to another port before boarding an average size roll on roll off ferry for the 4 hour journey to Lombok. The absolute comedy part was when we arrived at the port in Lombok the ship dropped Anchor still half a mile from the shore and we were told we had to wait another 3.5 hours for the tied to come in before we could dock planning at its best!!!! But no

Better than the real thing!!! problems tiny local boats turned up in the ones and two's to offload all the impatient people (us) so we had to pass our bags now weighing 30kg a piece over the side of the ferry and then scramble down the side of the ship a rope the two girls were not most impressed by this but managed admirably. Then was another 2.5 hour car journey before arriving in Kuta Lombok some 9 hours after departure.
We stayed in Kuta Lombok for 7 days and I had my best Surfing yet, and on day 2 we found an old friend of mine whilst surfing a small reef break called Don Don's it was a strange moment of two people starring at each other bobbing up and down on surfboard finally we got close enough to be sure and there was my old friend from Cornwall Chapel Amble Charlie or Charlie Pearson. The best surf was early in the morning and the most funniest was a 5am start with Charlie and John (another cool Englishman travelling with Charlie) It was just before sunrise we arrived in Griphooks bay and got the boat to the reef me and Charlie both left

A new meaning to drink driving!!! our boardies and rash shirts in the boat and opted for the speedo look our local boat man aged about 15 called us “Batty Boys” as we were jumping into the water and he was probably right!!! John stayed in the boat for 10 minutes enough to get some great photos of us on the wave for evidence. I only managed to stay in my speedos for 30 minutes before a real pummelling send them flying from my arse thankfully the leash stopped them from swimming with the fishes and I pulled them back up paddled back to the boat and changed into my boadies and rash vest, the insane Charlie was a real legend and donned his speedos for the entire session. This was also the day I had my best surf in waves 5-6ft and extremely clean waves. I can now say I can surf!!!!
In the middle of the week I arranged 2 scuba dives with local company DiveZone. We had to drive for 2 hours to get to the dive sites which really sucked and the water was not as clear as on Lembongan and the coral and fish no where near as colourful but

Jon on a wave still good to be keeping my new skill fresh in the mind!!!
On our last day in Kuta Lombok the inevitable happened when driving the motor bike we fell off, we were coming up a very steep hill that was hairpin turning to the left and when Nibz down shifted into first gear the rear wheel spun violatantly in the sandy gravel surface and the front wheel came right up in a wheelie Matty sort of managed to jump off the back before the bike crashed down upon us. Minor damage to the bike just a foot stand snapped off, and Nibby and Matty re leaved to come away with no life threatening injuries. Nibby had taken to use a new word we learned “Bark” (skin) away from her big toe which has taken over a week and still only just heeling (Nibby- “my beautiful feet are not so beautiful now!”). Matty got away with just a little bit of his toenail falling off. A lucky escape me thinks. Oh and yes parents we are being much more careful now and you won't hear of any more accidents.
We finally left Kuta Lombok with Nibby being extremely bored
