Gilly T! On the 9th we got the ferry across to Lombok, Lombok is the island to the right of Bali...its a lot less developed, full of palm trees and full of long haired guys looking for love... So the ferry crossing wasn't bad, despite the ferry looked like it was about to sink! the toilets were the worst I had ever seen! and so small it was nearly impossible to squat!!!!!!!! ugh!! I feel sick just thinking about them. We were told the journey to Gilly Trawangan which is a very small island off Lombok would take 4 hours.....9 hours later after 2 boat rides and a bus ride we arrived...tip for anyone thinking of going, take the fast boat from Bali, it takes 2 hours!! Now we are going to just basically go on and on and on about how great Gili Trawangan is. It is like heaven, paradise. I'm not sure if the contrast between here and Kuta makes it all the better but this place is lush. We got to spend 6 days in Paradise. We met some people who had arrived and ended up spending their whole time in Indonesia here. We found people who had come and never left and now work and live here. It's so nice and chilled with beautiful beaches. The Journey Before we reached Paradise we had to go through hell. We basically decided to save moeny to do the journey ourselves. Indonesia... The land of beaches, sunsets, snorkelling and pineapple pancakes! The Gili Islands are three tiny jewels off the West coast of Lombok, which is the next Island over from Bali in Indonesia. After a 6 hour ferry ride, with blaring Indo-pop and sub-zero aircon, a rather hairy minibus ride through Lombok, and another small boat ride, we made it to Gili Air. Ended up staying at the “party bungalows” of the island, which consisted of just us two foreigners and a whole bunch of chilled out locals! Awesome sunsets set to a reggae beat and a Bintang (the local brew). Next off to Gili Meno in search of turtles. We were rewarded on our very first snorkel with two, extremely large and old turtles! One hell of a ride. I don't know how I will top this last adventure. I am now bouncing around the Gilli Islands, which are unreal. Yesterday morning we did a morning dive at Sunset point and saw a 2 meter white tip reef shark just chilling at his reef. We watched as this amazing creature in his element glided through the ocean and circled his reef from about 10 feet away. The shark was curious and came by for a close look at us and then had what seemed like a nap on the ocean floor. We also saw some sea turtles down there. It's my last day in Gili Trawangan. My last day in Paradise, Christmas Day. I leave this island for down under in a short time and can't remember the last time i was this passionate about a place. This island. These people. The wonderful relationships i have made in this short time that i have been traveling. It is the most freeing experience i have ever had in the whole of my life. I feel as if i could just float away and disappear on an island in the sea and stay forever. I feel much sorrow having to leave such a beautiful place and beautiful people. People that are full of life and love. That will make you feel at home in their home and in their hearts. They don't have much and they don't ... read more
