I have 6349 images taken in 84 dives in Bali 2013. 2953 of them are already marked as Rejected ready to be deleted when I am in a cleaning mood. I learn to wait a a few weeks and keep them in the freezer in case I change my mind. 2599 I haven’t looked at because they are mostly boring. I have flagged only 88 to look at and only 4 that I am really happy with so far.
My first night at the airport in Taiwan I was playing taking photos of my computer screen at low light and I set my ISo at 3200. Then I did about 30 dives with my camera like that. A complete Amateur mistake. Unforgettable! I was concentrated in playing with snoots and finding a hairy shrimp and doing a lot of dives or getting tru the surf by myself or I don’t know what. I don’t know how I never checked on that. Maybe because I very seldom change my settings from iso 100. I would download my images into my harddrive, do a quick check on the composition and move on to the next dive. Only after Steve arrived and suggested
me to change the iso for the snooted shots I noticed! My images are grainy because of that and most of them are noticeable without zooming in. Just a few of them maybe usable. The rest of the time I was having trouble with my camera focusing. I was not getting sharpness or depth of field that I am used to. First I blamed it on me that I was getting shaky when I was cold, then I blamed it on my inspiration, probably I had lost it and I couldn’t find anysubject that really made me feel the that “connection” I feel sometimes, then I blamed it in the camera, then in the lens…only when I got home and I was ready to send my setup to a Nikon tech I noticed that the rubber inside the trigger button in my housing had fel off and to worsen my feelings…I had a replacement in my travel tool box. I wanted to stamp my gear on the WALL! I was so upset. I hope my experience is good for someone not just me and learn your gear and how to trouble shoot on the go. I glued the rubber with
super glue and my first test shots from bhb are tack sharp.
So anyway, I will be sending out whatever images as I run into them or post in my blog or fb. When I have time I will blog a compilation of my notes about traveling to the NW of Bali on a budget including where to eat and stay. How to move around, Atms, banks and money changers, how to get your own wifi hot spot, my ways to diving in Puri Jati and Secret Bay and the cool critters I found with no guide. And finish up with spending some time up in the top of the mountains in non touristic balinese villages watching the sun set behind the houmoungous hills slowly working your way back to the airport taking an amazing scenic way thru the mountains and the lakes (Danau Buyan and Danau Betaran) and towns like Bedugul. Just check back in a few days for fresh posts. Thanx for reading.
