Dilema: What to do on my last night dive? Go get a better shot of something I have already seen (almost for sure: mating dragonnetes) or go see something I have never seen (Not for sure: Mating mandarin)…I switched back and fwd when I think half of the island or more think there are no mandarine fish in Bali…

Bali 80 Secret Bay am
I didn’t really care much for going back to secret bay but I really really wanted a potrait, award winner shot of that cute blenny with puffy cheejs I saw earlier during the week. So I decided to at least do one more dive there. It was raining all morning, Mr Yono stopped at an Internet place in Gilimanuk while waiting for the storm to go by. It was high tide and besides all the trash at the shoreline the water looked clear. I walked almost to the pier and then I dropped. Within 2 minutes of the dive I saw the blenny looking at me. I took some side shots to meter light and when I was about the strike for the portrait it
dessappeared. I thought there should be more around. I went under the dock slowly trying not to stir the sand and looking for more. Then I saw a couple of eyes underneach me looking over a small edge. So cute. Slowly I got closer and it hide. I went around and I saw it. It was a greenish color. Odd. It wasn’t a blenny, maybe a dragonet. Could it be a baby dragonet? It had the prints and the fins, the shape but not the colors. I wish I had someone to share it with. It was the coolest find of my entire time in Bali. I tried to get a good closeup but I had trouble with my 10X I didn’t feel it locking and all the images looked soft in the screen. I took my time and I just watched it for a couple of hours. At the end it was very comfortable with me and it would come towards the camera giving me one side and then another one. I wish I had Komang around to hold a snoot! It would have been a great shot!. I got out of the water because my hands were numb.

Bali 81 Secret Bay pm
I didn’t feel like doing a second dive. My strobes were burned by the end of my dive and I was cold. I wanted to save my spares for the night dive but then I had a delicious fish soup for lunch and I decided to get back in the water with no camera and do an exploratory dive. It was low tide by then, and low visibility. Very low. I walked almost to the Columbus boat, swam passed it and dropped down straight on the metal blocks. I dove around them and on top. There are 4 I think. Nothing to photograph except for one of the huge funky dragonnetes with the spot on the front fin, a weird elongated flounder looking like, and a sneak eel. I got out just on time to get over to look for the mandarine spot.
