This is a bit of a catch-all entry; not a whole lot to say about Lovina itself but as most of these adventures/pics occurred either going to or setting out from Lovina I figured it was just as easy to lump them all together into one blog... So after our return to Ubud and our less than auspicious debut in the rental vehicle we pointed the Toyota Avenza north, destination Lovina! Michael and Sue (the Australian couple we had met in Padang Bai) mentioned they were heading there as well, gave us the name of the place they were staying and invited us to join them for a few days...hmmm, okay! We had had a good time with them, and they offered to show us around the countryside so it sounded like a perfect opportunity to ... read more

October 16 Miracles happen. I am on the bus to Lovina, I have my scarf and I have a marriage proposal to consider. The night before I left Ubud for Mungwi, I met a young man in the street. He was looking for customers in the rain. Customers who might want to go rafting, be driven somewhere, that kind of thing. Not a rent boy! He was very sweet. I told him I was from Monkey Island, he which is something I do to mess with the locals’ heads. Sometimes they laugh, sometimes they look worried, sometimes they ask if that is in Holland. This one smiled and said his name was Monkey Boy, no Hanuman the monkey god, no Nyoman, and next he’s telling me his life story and how his wife left for someone ... read more

Monday 21st June 2010 We were the last to be picked up, the others being met either at the airport or from their hotels south of us. Three vehicles were used, a 4wd and a small mini bus for some of us, the others ahead in another very new one. Our first stop on the way to Lovina Beach was at the top of a range overlooking two lakes way below us just outside of the town of Tamblingan. Here we had lunch in the nearby cafe, this being the only meal we would have to buy during the tour. The Aditya Hotel was to be our home for the next 4 days and our first impression was very favourable with big, clean rooms in a garden setting. The rest of the day was spent in ... read more

As we had heard good reviews from fellow travellers about Lovina - a small beach town on the north coast of Bali - we decided that our three-some would head there next. After negotiating with the travel agent (a very loose term for a bunch of disorganised, money grabbing touts) we managed to get a ticket that would take us from Bromo straight through to Lovina. Later at their 'main' office we discovered that the AC bus that was supposedly direct was in fact a bus to the Bali ferry port then us being placed on a public bus to our final destination - something we could have organised ourselves for a cheaper price! However, we were tired and hot so despite heated words we went 'with the flow'. Our journey to the ferry was uneventful, ... read more

Day 12 Lovina Beach We basically did nothing all day except lay around and drink beer. I read and Peter went to the pool where he chatted with some Aussies and met an older Canadian man traveling alone. We noticed a lot of people traveling alone here. One lady summed it up. It’s safe. She told me she is divorced her kids are grown and she feels comfortable going to Bali by herself because of this. I have to agree. I saw no threats or reason for anyone to be afraid of the area. Just the drivers! The staff at the hotel is so accommodating. I noticed this every where you go. They are one step ahead of you. It’s like they are anticipating your every move. When you go into the local businesses they go ... read more

July 2nd After we enjoyed our last breakfast on our veranda, we packed our goodies, hopped in our Jimny and set off for Lovina, a town on the north coast of Bali. On the way we picked up another tote bag to put our shopping in. We've accumulated a few things since our arrival here and need a spot more space. Driving on these roads isn't as scary as we had thought (we've survived the streets of Vietnam after all). You just have to know that people insist on overtaking on blind corners and hills, and drive with at least half their car in the opposite lane. When you drive with this in mind you'll be okay. After navigating through the traffic we finally left the city area and wound our way into the mountainous inner ... read more

Lovina, Northern Balinese coast Wednesday 25th February 2009 Since returning to Bali from Flores, we have been chilling out in Lovina on the North coast. We were a bit concerned that, having left Flores sooner than planned, due to washed out roads and travel difficulties there, we would be disappointed with our final Indonesian week in Bali, since Flores is so scenically beautiful and we would have liked to spend longer there. We needn’t have worried because northern Bali is so very different to the frenetic tourist hubs of the south and the scenery across the central mountains is pretty spectacular. Lovina is a quiet little seaside town nestled between the mountains and the sea. The weather has been glorious, sunny mornings and cooling rain in the afternoons, and the seas are calm. The coral reef ... read more

Peljali ... read more

We headed to Lovina for a few days in the hope of escaping the rain for a while. The weather was much better during the day time but still we experienced heavy rains during the evenings - we didnt mind so much as we chose a place to stay in kalibukbuk with an amazing balcony where we were happy to while away several hours. While looking for the room we also found a great and good value place to eat - AJ's pizza (sounds western but in fact was a really small warung (only 2 tables!) that did great Indonesian food (like Pepes, nasi gorang and gado gado) and nice pizza too). The owners (mother and daughter - Addy and Maddy) couldn't do enough for us - looking after our bags while we tramped around for ... read more
