Bali- first few days
Arrrival at airport WOOPS we forgot we needed a visa or money to enter, the queues for the cash machine ( the one that works) informs us that we are not the only ones to make this mistake. For the first 2 days we check in to the beautiful Puri Bambu hotel which makes the two of us feel like royalty compared to the previous 3 hostels. We try and find the beach from our hotel which took about 30 minutes! Only to find that it was a 5 minute walk!!
The First night in Bali we decided to go into Kuta, which is equivallent to Magulluf to the Brits for the Austrailians, where everyone is here to party and shirts promoting the local brew ("Bintang") are adorned by everyone apart from ourselves! The one benefit of coming to Kuta is that it has plenty of Vendors offering tours of the island.
The rest of our first few days was spent relaxing at the hotel, and for Fay sipping Pina Coladas at the swim up bar!
Kuta and our tour
On the 19th we had booked a tour which started
from Kuta. This meant that we had to move to our new, less luxurious surroundings of the New Areana Hotel. The word "new" was probably a slight misrepresentation of the truth. But the two of us like to think of it as a themed hotel. The main themes being out dated 70's decor and an in room pet / pet's for each room. But for only 6 pounds per night, neither of us are complaining!
The next day we set off on the 2 day tour, we originally wanted a 4 day tour but no one was really interested in talking about that! We invisaged seeing some wonderful sites on our first day, however our guide seems to be treating it more as a shopping trip. Once we do stop at a beautiful temple, or overlooking rice terraces in the hills, or even at an active volcano the information from our guide (who speaks perfect english) becomes Vague at best! It's also clear that our guide is in a bit of a rush whisking us away from any sites of interest. The day was so rushed we arrive at our hotel for the night at 3.30pm!!
We stay
in Lovina for the night, even this is a little disappointing as we past beautiful areas of Lovina with wide black sandy bays. The bay we arrive at has a more agricultural feel to it, with hog's, pigs, piglets and chickens running around intersperced with the occasional very large angry dog, which takes a liking to Fay's arm!! OOUCH! The saving Grace for this bay of Lovina is a lovely Rasta themed bar where we have dinner for less than 2 pounds! Lovely!
The next day starts off much better, we head off into the hills to some Hot springs. Chris jumps in, Fay sits out on lifeguard duty! Not much time passes before we are made to feel uncomfortable by our impatient guide! Before we get to the next stop Git Git Waterfall the heavens open and the road turns into a River!
Our tour left us feeling a certain amount of disappointment, but Bali does have some beautiful sites. Its hard to put it into perspective without the knowledge behind them!! To be continued..................
