The train didn't arrive in Siliguri until about 12:30PM. Since the RG contained no map of the place, I picked a hotel randomly then got a cycle rickshaw to it. The Hotel Chancellor is in a busy part of town, looks grim from the outside, but is clean on the inside. It's bucket hot water only, which wasn't mentioned in the RG listing, but I've done it before and will no doubt do it again. On the hotel's recommendation, I went to a Chinese restaurant nearby called Tai Wah, and had the best meat dish I've had yet in India - though it was Chinese so maybe it doesn't count. I dedicated the morning to a sightseeing tour of Patna, which encompassed the Golghar (a large grain storehouse) and the Gandhi Maidan (a large field on which a gazillion games of cricket were underway). Unfortunately some sort of renovation work was taking place on the Golghar, as it was covered in scaffolding which blocked the stairs half way up. I had an English misunderstanding with a young child, who shouted what I thought was "Weight, weight!" as I was staring up the steps - there was a set of scales there with a sign announcing it was Rs 1 to have yourself weighed, but I declined and carried on climbing. I left Nepal by local buses through to Darjeeling back in India. It was a long bus ride from Katmandu to the border, but there were no problems. It was hard to find the Nepalese border post - I walked past it a couple of times and saw a Canadian girl doing the same - walking back and forth along the road. Eventually we found it and checked out of Nepal before getting to the Indian border and waiting patiently for the official to write out our entry in triplicate into the various journals in the office. We met some nice monks from Bangladesh on Pilgramage and they were heading into Nepal - in their bright orange robes and shaved heads.
