Jaisalmer: the highlight of Rajasthan. The city is a large medeval like fort built in the 12th century. This fort is still the actuall city, with a quarter of the entire population of the city still living inside. The city is on the border with Pakistan in a desert so dry it rains once every seven years!
Besides a pension for selling "child beer" (misspelled "chilled"), the city is wonderfully vibrant with a great atmosphere.
The main thing to do in Jaisalmer is a multiple night Camel Safari into the desert to live as the nomads do, and sleep under the stars on a sand dune. While it sounds nice, waking up four times in the night because Dung beetles are rolling camel poop over your body is not as fun as it sounds. It was fun to get to know your camel. Brad's was "Corey" and Jess' was "Blueberry." Camels are beyond stubborn, and always have a facial expression of a child with down syndrome. While on the safari we went through some local villages in the desert. The towns did not have electricity, and the people amazing. A very rich culture. Even without electricity they knew how to sell
City street
The city is very colorful with small markets down all the side alleys. cold pepsi for double the normal price!
The experiece overall was incredibly fun, but doing it for two days was enough. (they offer up to week long trips).
