The idea of riding camels on sand dunes was the main reason to go from Delhi to Jaisalmer. With the rush i hadn't booked a hostel to stay in. With about 3 hours of the train journey left an Indian man sat down and introduced himself, he said he was studying in Delhi but owned a hotel in Jaisalmer ( what a suprise )

He gave us a room for 150 rupees ( 2 quid ) but was after our business for a camel safari, which we gave him out of laziness to go elsewhere on our part. The Camel Safari itself was quality, Gill was on Monia and i was on the far more pacey Tiger ! When they were made to run quicker, and we nearly fell off , i left Gill for dust ! Only downside was going to a very touristy place with plenty of beggars. We were meant to watch the sunset but spent most of the time running away from beggars benny hill style !

After the camel safari we went to watch a gypsy dance evening which included a meal. After 15 minutes it got a

bit dull and the highlight ,apart from the food, was Gill being dragged up to bust some bollywood moves with other ladies. On the performance given, there won't be many offers coming in !!

Jaisalmer has a massive fort which sits high above the town and has good views. The fort has a few temples inside it and is then full of hotels/restaurants and the usual shops selling tourist tat. We had a good wander round , then we got our bags and went to the station again for another night train.

Photos to follow when i can work out how to do it !

Who are those animals riding the camels?
Hi Gilly Bobs and Steve. Those pictures are really good, you sound like your having an amazing time. I ran over a camels toe in Knowsley safari park once and it snapped my wing mirror, thats probably the closest I've ever been to a camel. Where is your final destination? My mate set me up a facebook but I dont know the password and haven't had a clue how to work it anyway. I am still in Tasmania but leave for melbourne on a boat with My 1983 ford lazer (about the same age as you Gill) I arrive in Melbourne where I will be meeting my friends from the UK. We will visit Ramsay street and then we're off to sydney and then to Rockhampton, (just after the tropic of capricorn in Queensland.) Just short of 2000km from melbourne so it will be a long drive. Im looking forward to catching up with you both on your return, I'll be back late November. Hope you enjoy the rest of your trip and have a safe journey Chris
